I was wondering what the difference is in the 1991-1996 4l80 verse the 1997 plus. also was wondering if i can get the 1993 vintage year into a 2001 camaro... or do i need to find a newer one? thanks

The case is different, bolt holes on bellhousing are in diff spots, but you still only end up using 5 of them. Some internal changes, wiring harnesses and valve bodies are slightly different (use a new/modern internal wiring harness if possible) but they are mostly quite similar once you go through them and update/rebuild em.

Overdrive gear is also stronger on the older models I'd like to add.

Most people purchase older style 4L80E's honestly
