Buying an Out-Of-State Car and Bringing it to CA?
Hey All!
If I buy an out of state F-body and bring to CA, will they require me to do anything other than smog it? Will they require some kind of special inspection or referree smog?
Thanks in advance!

I have that same question. I bought the vette from Dallas, TX and bringing it to Clovis, Ca. I was hoping just a smog since I have that covered and hopefully the inspection shouldnt be too complex.

I'm getting ready to move to California and if this is true then it is good news. I heard they did detailed inspections for aftermarket parts and rejected you for headers, catbacks, etc.

I will moving to Bakersfield. Is is it the same out there like it is here? You must get checked in your county of residence? I will be in the LA area all the time because that is where all of my relatives live (West Covina, Azusa, Monrovia, etc).

This seems to be a measure of good news. I started a thread on this awhile back on the truck forums
http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...ons-ca-491673/
and it seemed like I was going to be total SOL due to the DMV doing a detailed visual. It made me very hesitant to even try to bring my truck out there out of fear of being stuck with a vehicle I could not register. Now if I have a good chance of finding a place that is easy on the visual (pretty sure with cats I will pass smog no problem) then it shouldn't be TOO hard to get registered out there.
I was even considering just dumping the druck back at the dealership since I am not upside down on it.
EDIT:
According to this, an inspection will be required by a cop, DMV employee, or "licensed vehicle verifier" (wtf is that?) :
http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/how...r9.htm#feesdue
it doesn't detail what they are checking for though.

Don't bother taking it to DMV to get it registered. Take it to AAA or any other place that does registration. I first took my GTO to DMV and it was a hassle. Because Pontiac's vins are on a metal plate, she was concerned that it was a false vin and she told me I need to have a Peace Officer inspect it. So I just it took it to an indpendent registraion office, showed my smog and got it registered. She just looked at my vin and made sure I had seatbelts.
