Ls7 lifters, new but discolored?
Can any one confirm these lifters as the LS7 replacement lifters?
And do they usually show up looking dirty? There are no signs of wear but the outer cases are discolored.

i got them from a member, SS99Z51. he said they were brand new and the boxes dont look like they have ever been opened. i will get all the lifters out and take pics, i only took two out so far.
i have a 70k LY6 engine, does any one know if it already has the updated lifters??
I dont really want to pull the heads if i dont have to.

Here's what I found in my oil pan when I used "discolored lifters". I shrugged them off like no big deal. I'm sure for an OEM application it wasn't. But with my high lift cam I found this in my oil:

Variable Duration Lifters, or VDL, are faster leakdown lifters. VDL's were designed for street cars for those suffering with low vacuum, and circle track applications with vacuum requirements. They make lots of noise until oil pressure rises to pump-up the lifter. You'll see a little more vacuum, and a little more torque/throttle response but stability suffers in the higher RPM's when compared to a standard leakdown lifter.

At higher RPM's, these lifters do not leak down. I have personally used Rhoads Lifters and they worked as advertised, from what I could see. And I have absolutely no problem with the ticking sound. My car has vacuum requirements.

I had wheel pitting with the Rhoads on a 228/230 XER cam with Comp 1.75 lifters. I talked to some guys from an oil company at SEMA and they thought low zinc in the oil could have contributed. I switched to Morels reboxed as Isky's and Torco TR-1 Racing Oil which has a high level of ZDDP. Still using the same rockers. Guess we'll see.
