Tricks for a satin black car?
My 99z is black no dents or dings just has the factory paint and i dont want another gloss black finish, as i have a brand new white gel coat trufiber SS hood and tail sitting i will prob throw on this car as well.
I wanna rattle can this car satin..... are there any tips and paint that people normally use/share with me???? obviously sanding and prime,but what else? all the panels and bumpers will be removed when doing this
I know chris down in long beach/anahiem has always have satin on his rides and look great .

Most of the ones pictured above are more of a matte black, they don't have that professional finish to them.
A satin clearcoat is the trick to keeping it from looking like a hack primer job. It should have a slight sheen to it with no visible blemishes/lines/streaks/bubbles/etc.

thats how I did it. I used a 600 gritt sandpaper to remove the clear coat. cleaned that up after and sprayed away. The reason why I wanna use a primer is because the bumper seems to last longer. Mine started fading after 7 months. I did my friends berger panel and that thing still looks good like if I had painted it yesterday. how many coats did you use ?

We're talking about spray painting here and No one said my cars had a "professional" finish. The spray I use is durable, Takes years to fade and It dries uniform. The only inconsistencies visible are from the original surface. Btw those ferraris are most likely wrapped.

Spray canned cars look like ****, sorry. And spray canning a vette is just plain retarded.... Vinyl it if you wanna do it right. Matte or satin black vinyl isn't too expensive and if you take time and do it yourself it will look 100x better then any rattle can job, not to mention it's reversible if you wanna sell the car or go back to gloss (especially if your paint is clean and nice already..)

Just sayin' little work and cash and it could look nice. It's a little over $600 for vinyl wrap, and if you're in a position where you can "buy more cars," this shouldn't even be a debate. Rattle canning is straight ghetto, and so are all repainted cars. That's why most of them don't sell besides the ones with $15,000+ professional paint jobs. Doesn't matter if you have to sell your car to buy another, or not. Value is still value. This isn't rocket science and these aren't rat rods.

My advise would be to look at some rattle canned cars, especially satin or matte because they show imperfections much easier, and make your own decision. Rattle canning is what kids do because they don't have any money. Just makes no sense to ruin a perfectly good factory pant job beyond recovery with a paint can. There's a reason vinyl wrapping has become so popular.

Take a drive out here and look at my corvette. It's been at pleanty of car shows throughout the six years I've owned it. The 72 was another quick job. I guess I was more concerned about shaving the side markers, back dating the door handles and getting the ls1 in there.
