Before I drop the fuel tank to replace the pump, I wanted to ask--How much space is there between the interior steel trunk panel and the surface of the fuel tank? I was going to use a reinforced Dremel cutting disk to make the fuel tank access panel.

Any recommendations? I have true duals that clear the tank, so dropping it shouldn't be too hard if I have to. Thanks.

I did the access panel cutout in the 87 TA and there was an easy 1/4" before any contact was noticed anywhere. Any one else can make a comment on this. I have no regrets doing this.

If it were my car, I'd drop the tank. If the cut-off wheel would happen to grab and slice into the tank you'll be dropping the tank and buying a new one.
