Default cam education please

I have a bone stock 05 gto and I was thinking of a mild cam. That didn't take long because I don't know much. Educate me please. What cam, cost, cost of labor, parts needed, hp gains anything and everything. Thanks

Your question is very broad question especially without stating your goals. To start with you could read thru the sticky at the beginning of the Generation III Internal Engine forum...

I would like to stay sniffer legal if I can. My state does not do it but I'm sure that will change

Is this a daily driver? A weekend toy? If its only driven sometimes u can lean a little harder on a cam. If is a dd well everyone has a different view in what's daily drivable. Is this a auto or 6speed car? If auto you will also need a stall converter. We need more information on car and what ur goals are.

If the car is currently bone stock and you're only looking to gain 20-40 HP, you should be looking at headers and a tune instead of a cam.

Auto , garage queen about 1000 miles a summer. As far as headers go I am open to that to. My overall goal is best bang for the buck 20-40 hp. I don't wana go catless if I go exhaust. I was told cai are a waste of money. I would like to break 12.99 if possible on a budget . That is not to say it will be at the track more than a few times.

Highly recommend do full bolt on's before a cam. Cai,Lt headers, und pulley and a stall you would be far pleased with the car. Everything can be Dyi if you have access to basic tools.. The most expensive is getting it tuned.. You can buy everything used to stay within budget... btw what is your budget? I would upgrade that intake manifold to the ls6 also

for your goal stick with the bolt ons. You should be high to mid 13's stock so if you do full exhaust and a cai you should be high 12's. then do a torque converter and tires to be mid to lower 12s. going this way you will be street and smog legal still and you will gain your hp number and your 1/4 mile time. then if you feel the need of a cam (which i am sure you will) you will have the supporting mods to go along with it.

I just want the best bang for the buck no real budget. Just don't wana go nuts. Was thinking about the 421 bobcat but a great deal of members don't care for it. Do cai really work on our cars? I had a new goat in 04 on the juice and I forget what works. Do we still argue over jba headers hp claims or did we settle it lol?
