Default LS1 to LQ4 Swap in a 2002 Z28: Knock Sensor Help

I have an LQ4 on the way to swap into Camaro. I've heard that the LQ4 has the knock sensors mounted in a different place than the LS1, and that I need to either use the LS1 valley cover on the LQ4 or buy harness extensions to screw the knock sensors into the side of the motor.

Can someone please clarify this?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the year. What year is the motor?

Does not depend on the year. All LQ4's are Gen III based. The knock sensors will be in the valley just like your ls1. You might have to swap your ls1 sensors into your lq4 depending on what knock sensors come in the lq4. Some have different connectors.

if its a 1 wire knock sensor, they mount in the valley cover area
if its a 2 wire knock sensor, they mount on the sides of the engine block

type of block does not matter...
but placement of the sensor does...

So if it's a two-wire sensor on the LQ4, I should be able to swap over my LS1 sensors, right? After all, the Camaro's harness will be for a single wire anyway.

if you currently have a one wire sensor from an LS1, then you need to mount your ls1 sensors in the valley and use them...
you cannot use a 2 wire sensor with a one wire pcm or vice versa...it is not the same signal type

there is somebody who makes a harness adapter...it just takes one of the 2 wires to a ground to use a 2 wire sensor...
but the adapter is not the issue.. its the signal it puts off...
it basically means you have to redo every table for knock in the pcm from scratch, and its nothing more than a guess...you wont ever get it to work right...
there are also several other things you have switch in the pcm...plus some wiring changes

its just not a real possibility..

if your block doesnt have the provisions, you can drill and tap for them...or have a machine shop do it while they are prepping the block for its guts..

While all of that is true, it does not matter in his case. His camaro will have the one wire setup, and the lq4 will have the provisions in the valley to screw in the knock sensors from the ls1 he has now. No need to worry about it.

Just got this motor together and back from the shop. Weird thing is, I can't get any KR on my scan meter, even in 6th gear with a load. There are no codes or pending codes in the PCM, so it appears that the knock sensors are functionally properly, but I'm at a loss as to why I can't get it to knock at least a little.

Any ideas for troubleshooting?
