just put in a circle D converter today, blew up a 800hp jegs converter.

220k mile 4.8l, stock heads, gaskets, you name it, 224/224 112LSA cam we got for free, a little bent so we had to hammer it in with the stock truck cam.

borg Warner S475 21lbs of boost, methanol wawa 92 catpiss

15deg of timing, 28x10 slicks out back 3.08 gears, th400 trans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glwRcGjyKtw&feature=youtu.be

took her out for some street testing, hopefully getting it to teh track sunday

LOL. My god. You had to hammer in the cam????? Com on. Will it make it to the track without taking out the cam bearings??? Awesome still though. You guys are always at it. I think i have to move to where you guys live and get in on some of this. LOL:headbang:

What rack are you using?

I'm thinking about deleting my Power Steering and run the truck manifolds I already have. Did you need to relocate the alternator or was it more of a weight reduction removing the alt/PS bracket?

Also, what size is your belt and where is your belt tensioner located?

stock mustang power rack, just no pump.

we moved the alt to where the tensioner is and used a tractor supply threaded eyelet guy and made our own tensioner, its around a 43 inch 5 rib belt for a VW we use.

we just didnt want to deal with hooking it up and making a relocation bracket.

you can buy a fox body and build an 8.8 for what most people buy a 12bolt for, you are easily dropping 600lbs and the cars are easier to work on.

Agreed, I would also like to see some better pics of the alt. setup.....

here is how i did mine, granted this is not the turnbuckle i ended up using, but gives you the idea (had this one laying around so i tested my theory with it). i ended up making a brace that reinforces the bolt that goes through to the tensioner mount that braces it to the other tensioner mount to keep it completely rigid (not shown in the picture)

112 cam how is that working for you? I like it.

Fbodyjunkie06
05-03-2012, 11:42 AM
The cam having a tighter lobe is actually helping advance the exhaust in this set-up which with the 4.8 and largeish hot side on this turbo versus the c.i. is really going to help get the exhaust gas out of the motor sooner and help spool the turbo.

In this set-up it works very nicely.

so he is gunna drop it off to get built. it sucks, but after all this there is a new trans and converter in the car. we also have a 5.3 thats laying around we are gunna toss in while we pull the motor and trans for more cubes and power.

2005+ engines have LS2 rods which are stronger.... seems like LS1 style rods bend around the 650rwhp mark. LS2 rods can handle 800rwhp+.... or at least some people are crazy enuf on here to push them to those levels :bomb: Keep the RPM's at a reasonable level as that kills rods too.

I would say your statement is true about the 650 mark on 04 and older rods. my 04 lm7 was making 690wheel. Just pulled it apart to change heads and or take a look at wear and tear after 60 or so passes at the track. Found a few bent rods. lol. I was spinning it to 7k every pass though.

what a awesome day today haha

we have this TBI 350 powered flatbed towtruck, and the motor was fuckin tired, as you might have seen in the last video hahah

anyway we just happened to have a 454 big block carbed motor sitting in the driveway, yes, in the driveway... so obrien racing LLC decided to install the big block in the towtruck, they slammed it in there super fast, and we put a regulator on the fuel feed and return and got the pressure down to 9psi for the stock quadrajet and got it fired etc, everything is great otehr than having to hotwire the pump to run when the key is on since we are really not using any of the tbi electronics.

so my buddy wires it up no fuse or nothing but does use a relay, well half way to the track, on a bridge... the wires melt lolol

so we used a jumper cable to power it enough to pull off the bridge, and we were following him in another car, so went to auto zone and got the wire and a fuse holder and wired it up and finished our trip to the dragstrip.

first pass in the car we decided why not footbrake nice and see how she does.

10.55 @ 133mph 1.7x 60ft 107 in the 8th. awesome, we are super pleased with this, considering we can turn up the boost a little and even spray it with nitrous if we really want to hahah.

the next two passes were off the trans brake but although they look great because of the squat you can also see the car fishtailing and spinning 1.8 60 and going 10.60 and 10.71 i think, ill be cutting and uploading the video shortly.

but i figured you would all enjoy the sloppy story.

he also knocked the rear view mirror off today on a launch

to me, half ass, and spending the time to tq them all down with a tq wrench yeilds the same result.

why take the time to use the tq wrench.

when and if i knock a ringland out of this motor i doubt it will be because of the impact gun, more than likely way too much hp and or timing for the piston to handle is what i will suspect, so i dont see the point in "doing it right" matter of fact i dont see using the impact gun as "doing it wrong"

just like i dont see whats wrong with speeding on the highway everyday.

i spent majority of my time first learning about cars doing everything "correctly" and having shit break anyway. i figure i am doing pretty good my own way now.

and i certainly mean no offence to the people "doing it right"

hope you understand.

Have you guys tried pushing the truck cam, if so , How far. I just read the FearMont thread on TTF.

I think I want to do the ZR-1 cam but its appx $250 for the cam and install pieces. I cant find any of the swap pieces around here cheap/free.

If the truck cam falls hard at 5500 Ill have to suck it up and do the cam. I want to spin it up to 6800-7000 on my Junkyard build that I decided on after reading about the FearMont !

Ill also be using stock engine management so what do I need to do to get the front read 58X cam sensor to read correct on the 24x PCM. I think I saw where you posted to swap the outer 2 wires on the sensor ??

if you have a 24x engine, you need the 1x cam gear
58x engine needs the 4x cam gear, but should be front read from the factory.

you do have to move the wires to the front cover, and swap the outside wires.

we are going to be pushing the stock cam on the sunbird we built, 4.8l
we did made 500whp with that engine and the stock cam thru a th350

and it goes for 200-250 used and do not pop up very often.

The ZR-1 Cam is $98 new :hail:

Just have to use the front read cam sensor.

I would prefer to have the Z06 cam for a reasonable price but if the price is the same id have to go with the ZR-1

Cool- thanks for the response- I knew about teh cam gear from reading about your hard start issues when you had the wrong cam gear in there.

I just want it to pull to 6800-7000, didn't know how bad the stock truck cam will hurt the RPM.
