Just as they title says also did ls2 have the yellow valve springs like the ls6? Trying to figure out if my t/a has a ls2 or not. It has 243 heads and they don't appear to have been removed. Not sure what else to look for to see if it's actually a ls2. Is there any markings on the block? It made just over 330rwhp my tuner said that could be right for a ls2 considering its an a4 and the y pipe is trash on it. Any inputs?

That's about right stock RWHP for an Auto LS2, but the LS1 from 2001 to 2004 came with 241 heads (Some 200's had 241's also.) If Im not mistaken no ls1's came factory with 243's. The 243's on the LS2 did not have the sodium valves like the LS6 cars did I dunno about the springs.

No, sounds like an ls1 with 243 heads... An ls2 should dyno more like 350-360 stock.

Would the only clear cut way be to measure the bore?

My 06 GTO dynoed 332 with an A4

And there are casting numbers. It could also, "and more likely the ls2" just be an ls6 swap. But your hp numbers still seem low for ls6 which would dyno similar to an ls2

The dyno was not your friend lol. Ouch on a 70hp drivetrain loss.

When stock ls1's only rated at 350 hp are dynoing a few ponies less then a motor rated at 50 hp more something is up

LS1's dyno between 280-300 stock, 332 out of an auto I don't think anything was "Up" the car ran decent at the track, was normal for a bone stock auto GTO. Im just saying it's not out of the question that op's car has an LS2. There's no telling

There are about a bazillion posts with ls1's dynoing 330 in an m6 stock and 310-315 in an auto.

Its just a tuning tool. There are even more ls2's dynoing 350 then 330...

What casting numbers? On the block? My tuners dyno usually reads low my full bolt on 02 a4 ta made 317rwhp but with stock suspension and 2800 stall ran 12.40s. I'm trying to find a way to see if it's a ls2 cause I want to do a heads and cam and if it's a ls2 I can put on bigger heads lol. So would there be something on the block that would say? The heads to me don't look like they have ever been removed but I can't say that 100%

I believe casting numbers are behind the intake on the firewall? Just do a quick search on tech

I wasn't trying to say the dyno was the end all be all. Also not trying to argue, just saying that is within the realm of a normal LS2 dyno #, especially if the OP has stock exhaust and an A4 car like he says.

Normally LS1's are between 280-300. Anything over 300 is not the norm from what I have seen. Where are you seeing them up to 330???

Where is the casting number? And how would I know if the number is for a ls1 or ls2?

I made 324/341 with only an FRA (paper filter). Happy dyno/strong car.. Either way I'm far from alone.

If its an LS2 the knock sensors will be on the side of the block, if its an ls1 or 6 they will be under the intake manifold.

I stand corrected. Just speaking from what I have seen on the Dyno here, usually between 280-300 highest I have seen was an M6 @ 305/32x TQ. Must be really stingy.

An ls2 should dyno more like 350-360 stock.

No auto LS2 is dynoing in the 360s, that's less than 9% drivertrain loss. Not gonna happen. And if it is it's a happy dyno that just spews out good numbers.

Truth is it's more like 15-20% loss for an auto, so between 320 and 340 is about right.

Yep, buddies 06 Auto made 330rwhp. A manual can hit the 350 mark though.

Cam sensors will be behind the water pump area on an ls2. Easiest way to tell
