LS1 - Rebuilt/d
I know that this topic has to be out there, but search doesnt like me.
I have doing a refereshing on a drop out I purchased. The engine came from a totaled 98 Camaro. It has 100k + on it.
I know the following:
1) replacement of the piston rod bolts is advised.
2) Head job with LS6 springs advised
I know that I am going to cam it while it is out, and that the engine should be hot tanked and cleaned.
Where is the build tread?
Help me please.

Your in the right section here
Hold off on the ls6 springs till you pick the cam you want, then get valves springs to match the cam.
I'll go ahead and recomend the Katech rod bolts.
What are your plans for the motor...type of car its going in, what your using the car for and what is your budget? That will help us help you

I forgot to mention that I work at a GM dealership and get 10% over cost for parts. Hense the want for the LS6 springs.
The cam I was advised and read about has the following specs,
Basic Operating RPM Range 1,200-6,200
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift 216
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift 224
Duration at 050 inch Lift 216 int./224 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration 269
Advertised Exhaust Duration 278
Advertised Duration 269 int./278 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio 0.551 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio 0.551 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio 0.551 int./0.551 exh.
Lobe Separation (degrees) 114
It is being installed into a Grand National Clone vehicle (a t-type).
I want to keep costs low, but being able to get GM and GMPP parts cheap should help. I would like more than "box stock" LS1. But, the vehicle is going to be a cruiser, not a race car or hot rod.

Everything sounds good except the springs....you can get a set of comp 918, or PAC beehives for a pretty good price and they will last forever with that cam.....I don't think the ls6 springs will work for yiu

LS6 springs 02+ can handle .570 lifts and one does not judge on the lift capabilities (rookie mistake), one chooses springs according to spring pressures requirement by the cam profile.

I have been doing a lot of reading since I post this topic.
I think that I am more confused than before.......
I know that this will be a street car,
I do NOT attend to swap the cam again.
I MAY in the future do a head pacakge with a 799 casting set of heads.
I am not looking for HIGH RPM.
I love a choppy idle, but that is not the main goal.
After reading I am thinking that I should go with something a bit bigger like a
.590 or something like.
