Default Couple 5.3 questions

okay so i bought this 5.3 and took to the machine shop to have cleaned up well, turns out it needed to be bored so we went .030 and are going with some flat tops. well today i went and picked up some 243s out of an 05 gto. question is how much should i mill these and how big of a cam can i run without having ptv problems?

Which "flat-tops" did you go with? Do they have any valve relief to them?

The stock Gen III 5.3l L33 and all Gen IV's 5.3l have 243/799 heads and flat tops. So unmilled the CR should be 9.9:1 with stock gasket and stock 4.8l flat tops. That will give you an idea to start. 243 heads have a 64.45 cc chamber and it takes about .007 or so to remove 1 cc

But gasket and cam lift plays a factor as well.

Not just cam lift but cam lobe seperation angle. The wider angle is better in terms of ptv clearance.
