Default Am I wrong for going with a 3.90 pulley for my F1A?

Just needed to know what you guys thought about me going with a 3.90 pulley. How much boost will I be seeing with this pulley and am I in danger of lifting heads? I just bought my F1A and the first thing that came to my mind was lets go with the smallest pulley. This will be a street/strip car so will this be ok? I believe the smallest pully I can go with is a 3.70 (not sure), anyway I've got 80 lbs injectors and want to know what everyone thinks of my impulsive behavior!?

Why would you want to START with the SMALLEST? The smaller the pulley, the greater the chances of belt slip. Why not start with the correct size for your application?

The smaller the pulley the more boost you get. The larger the pulley the less boost. I had a 4.25 on my f1a and got around 12psi. You don't want to put a new setup on kill first time out, trust me.

Start with a 4.50 first. Pulleys are easier to change than motors.

Sorry guys I guess what I'm trying to ask is will going with a 3.90 pulley be streetable or will i regret it? I dont have a tuner locally so I need to pick a pulley and be happy with it for a while.

It will depend on how efficient your engine is as to what boost it makes. Ive seen people use a 3.7 pulley and make 22psi on a 370 and Im running a 3.7 and 18psi is the most I can get out of it. but to answer your question if you dont have a good tuner close by then a 3.90 will probably not be the best choice. My car was a real pain to tune and if I didnt have Heintz Racing just down the street then I would have never been able to have the power that I have and it still be streetable. jeff

Why not take several pullies with you, And have him fine tune for each. Then you can swap back and forth between them.
