I've never heard of the dip stick oil change method, so I need some opinions please. I discovered it today through the deal HERE (http://www.5stardeal.com/Deal/2873)on a device that does it. If the deal is dead by the time you see this, there is another one HERE (http://www.hsn.com/home-solutions/automotive-oil-change-system_pf-1121884_xp.aspx?&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=64A200A7-ABB4-E111-9D2A-001517B188A2&rdr=1&cm_mmc=Shopping%20Engine-_-Froogle-_-Home%20Solutions-_-1121884)for reference. I then found a basic how-to on the process HERE (http://www.ehow.com/how_6105987_change-oil-through-dipstick-tube.html). The benefit to this, is I don't have to climb under the car. My main question, is can I get to the oil filter without jacking the car up? This is on a Grand Prix GXP, by the way. Any help is greatly appreciated!

First I have heard of this and to replace your oil filter you have to get under the car.

I always change my oil and filter without jacking. I am skinny however.

If you're going under the car to pull the filter, you might as well pull the drain plug while you're there. You could get by with only lifting one side. 5.3 is a very easy oil change

If you change your oil through your dipstick, you must immediately delete your forum account and buy a smart car.

All of the oil will not get out and is not a very good way of doing it i think thats a quack.

The word lazy comes to mind...I could see if you had a beemer with a guard that stretched the entire length of the car, but c'mon. The plug and filter are right up front.

Yeah, I had one of those for my boat. The electric ones are kind of junky. Mine intermittently worked at best and finally got to the point where it wouldn't suction after about two years of use. In the boating world you typically only change the oil once a year (in the fall) so that means I only used it a couple times.
The one I use now is just like this one:

It operates on vacuum suction that is achieved with a hand pump. Less moving parts to break and I don't need electricity. Just be sure your oil is hot or it will take forever to pull it out. Even a that it is still not really a fast process.

lol thanks for the replies! I assumed I would get responses like this, but I just wanted to be sure. I've never changed oil, so I'll do my research, and change the oil the proper way.
