anyone turbo'd a 6.0 with a HX35w?
while i have little interest in street cars, i must say there are some bitchin ones in this forum!!! anyway i'm building an offroad rig, "ultra4" class racer. I'm building with my own custom chassis, Mercedes unimog 404 axles, 6.0-4l80e-ford 205. now that the rig is getting close, i have this brilliant idea of throwing a turbo at it. so i google it, and here i am. i found lots of great info here but still have questions. so if anyone has been down this road, lemme know. I would like to use a HX35w as i already have it and it seems the right size. I am NOT looking for 800hp, more like 450 reliable hp, that can take abuse all day, not just 8-12 seconds . Im wondering about things like.....
-fuel pump size/press
-injector size?
-fuel press regulator (boost adjustable?)
-cam and springs
-hardware (head studs ect?)
-lack of room for intercooler (am i gunna melt the intake?)
-stock HX35 waste-gate big enough?
-how big blow-off valve?
heres where i was at a couple months ago........

i guess my thinking was a relativity stock engine with a turbo, plus no nobody else goes turbo. i need the idle/low rpm characteristics of a stock engine and reliability but when i floor it, it needs to come alive!!!!!!!! I love turbos too, i dd a modded turbo diesel, my wife drives a VW turbo gas. why not the crawler?!
i did just find some info on here, most say the HX35 is too small, really? or just to small for 900hp? im not looking for a crazy engine, just reliable, and when needed, powerful

i think it could work but you would need a big exhaust housing like a 16cm. I have a hy35 on my 1.6 and it does good spools 20psi by 5000rpm 2nd gear. The only thing to remember with these turbos is they are designed for higher boost pressures. They come into theyre effieciancy range above like 15psi. Im still learning the ls motors but i would say yes but it will porbablyy have some back pressure but your not looking for much power. The last record i heard on a hy35 was 670awd hp at 42psi. So yes it can do 450whp. I would say twins would be awsome and give you plenty of room to grow. And single turbo you will be spooled by 1500 to 2000rpm i would guess

it is a 58mm same flow characterisctics as gt35. it depends what exhaust housing mainly. Dont get me wrong that would be the upper limit of the turbo on this motor. THey have a 9cm, 12cm, and 16cm housing. 16cm is like a 1.00+ ar houinsing

i want a wide rpm range, idle to 5k. again im not looking for crazy power, just a turbo'd 6.0. if the HX35 is too small, and twins wont fit very well, what about a 35/40 hybrid?

i would honestly do it once and done. you build it for this turbo and you will have to redo it when you go bigger. save yourself the headache and get a turbo that will do what you want. i had a master power 70 on a 351w and it was too small for that motor BUT with a truck cam in a 6.0 it would be awesome. with my 351 it was all over at 5k from backpressure. being that you need more down low i would do a .96 p trim 70mm
