What rings for high boost and big power?
I have a turbo setup that previously was making some pretty big power on a 390 LQ9. It made 1000 rwhp a few months ago. Long story short I had a crank issue and the motor is torn apart and it is getting a new crank and new Diamond pistons. I talked to the engine builder and they mentioned using steel rings in the pistons, is this what is recommended for a FI build making 20 psi of boost and 1000 hp? I was thinking I read somewhere to use a different material for big power and boost or maybe it was a napier ring but I can't remember for sure. What do you big power big boost guys run in your setups?
Also what do you think of gapless rings for this application?

i usaully use a tool steel top ring and a napeir 2nd ring with high boost. my last LQ4 had custom pistons and at 25psi of boost i was hitting 1134 whp. but at them levels i highly recomend a custom piston to. i have a spair set for sale, i will tell you this there not cheap.. i paid $1700 to diamond for a set of custom 4.020 piston made for a 6.125 rod and a 4.00" stroke.
had them hard anodized with a temp coating on the top and anit-friction coating on the skirts.

No need for custom pistons at that level if you have a tuner thats worth a ****. I have made close to 1000rwhp on stock pistons and rings without any issues and alot of others have too. Tell Diamond what you are doing and they will set you up with the correct ring pack for your application.
