Teach me wise ones! 98 z28 questions.....
So....I'm hearing that the 98 ls1 cars are the bastards of the ls1s. Harder to tune, different ecm, weaker motors, etc. Any reality or fact to this?
Now,if the ecm is different, can I switch it to a later year ecm? If so,how and what do I need to do it?
I'm just looking for clarity on why and what makes them different. We don't plan on going crazy with the mods, but it will get the typical stuff, full exhaust, lid, radials, converter, maybe some gogo juice.
Sorry for seeming naive, but I've crossed over from lt1s to ls and Wanna learn as much as I can.

98's are a little different yes. I'm not in expert on them by any means so some of the below response is going to be strictly an "IIRC", that being said.
98's do have a different PCM. In order to switch it I think it requires a whole new wiring harness. I doubt they're much harder to tune as long as you go to someone who knows what the heck they're doing. They have a smaller fuel tank but slightly bigger injectors. A4 cars will have a slightly stronger stock flexplate than 00-02 cars. Obviously the 98-00 cars come stock with the LS1 intake while 01-02s got the LS6 which flows a little better. 98's come with EGR and AIR systems which may or may not be deleted depending on owner preference (purchase intake/exhaust parts accordingly)
