Default head cooling pipe

I am installing a 02 5.3L LS in my car...when I got the engine the head cooling pipe or stream pipe...was a single pipe in the back of the intake that went from pass. head to dr. side head....should it be like that? I have a 00 silveradro 5.3L that has the head cooling/stream pipe, but it is attached to both the front and rear of the heads...which should I use??.....tks

in my opinion, i would use the steam pipes that connect all 4 corners, lke on the ls1's.
they help with evacuating air pockets from the engine, and help with them rear cylinder temperatures because the coolant has a place to escape.

on my ls1 I had the unit that connected all 4 corners. it was cracked so I replaced it. new one from Chevy dealer only connected across front 2 corners and came with black off plates for rear 2 corners. not sure why they changed it.
