What cam, intake - Mild 5.3 street rod
Picked up an LM4 5.3 alum. block out of an 2004 Envoy EXT, going in a 52 Chevy project, with a 4L60 or similar. Thinking of swapping cams, possibly to a different factory cam, LS1, LS2, LS6, etc. Seems to be plenty of them around, at reasonable prices. While the truck intake is ugly, hood clearance isn't an issue. Pros and cons of different intakes? I know the LS6 is the desired piece, but how does it compare to the truck intake in a smaller motor, in a street driven app? Won't see north of 6000 rpm, and am actually more concerned with general street drivability, at all rpm ranges. Any idea of the specs of the LM4 cam? Engine is supposed to have 46K, anything else I should think about? Just realised, should I have made 2 separate posts, one in ext engine, and one in internal engine?

I would leave the stock intake on there if you have the room for it, they perform very well just too big to fit on most cars. For cam of course I am going to recommend going aftermarket, we don't use the stock cams for much of anything here. A small 212/218 cam would wake the motor up, but not kill a bunch of low end because its too large. Of course that will require aftermarket springs and push rods so it would probably end up being more expensive.

I agree with JohnJanz. If the truck manifold fits your hood configuration, keep it. You obviously are not crazy about it's looks but there are members on this site that have ground the exteriors and painted them with some great results. I've tried to search for the thread but can't find it but I did post some pictures from the thread that I kept for reference.
That LM4 cam is dinky. Reportedly the specs are 191/190 .457/.466 115.5/ 114. An LS6 cam would be great. The earlier ones don't have the lift that the later ones do so they are cheaper to acquire. The earlier version would work great for you.

I cut my truck intake in half length wise. It's got an odd set of turns. There's a central barrel that doesn't "see" any of the runners. That air get pushed up through a hole in the barrel's "Roof", centrally located to spread the air more evenly to all cylinders. The runners only feed from the top here. It's just that the area the runners feed from is very shallow. Probably to not only evenly distribute the air to all 8 runners, but to immediately increase the velocity. A picture would work wonders here, but I don't have one available.

212/218 high lift would be my suggestion too and since it is going into a heavy vehicle I'd suggest a +4 advance. Since it is a classic, then you'll need some lope to impress people so go with a 113 LSA.

Your stock intake will do "fine" up to about 5500, that meaning it will do "ok" compared to the ls1 or ls6 intake, which will flow slightly better at higher rpms. Assuming you have got a little money to spend on this project and you want to have a fairly strong 5.3, I would suggest the following. Try to find a used LS6 intake for sale, ls1tech's classifieds is a great place to find this. A used ls1 intake is "better" but is probably not worth the hassle. I would suggest a 220, 224r or 228r cam, no bigger. The 218 cam that John suggested would obviously give you your desired streetability, any of these cams will take that motor to a whole new level, and with the proper tuning a 228r or bigger will give you good driveability. A set of hardened pushrods and comp 918 springs are simply a necessity when installing a bigger cam. With <50k miles I do not see any reason to take the heads off and change lifters. A ported LS6 oil pump or even better, a melling oil pump would be a good idea if your budget allows. LS2 timing chain is a cheap part (~$40) and will have you likely never have a problem with it.
You say you are not worried about clearance or looks, keep the truck intake and put the money into a good oil pump and ls2 chain. The LS6 can be an addition later on. I suggest a 220 cam and comp 918s like i said above.
I have only good things to say about Texas speed and performance, I ordered everything I needed for my cam swap from tsp and I got all of the parts in one order and they were shipped very promptly.
If you give them a call I am sure they will answer any questions and will help you with whatever you may need to get that motor right
