Don't know about 'vette's, but all of the '04 GTO's are the LS6 block stamping.

Thanks for the replies. I too was under that impression.

A fellow enthusiast has a motor for sale from an 03 Vette. I went on the assumption it was an an LS6 based upon that impression. But the casting numbers (241 heads and 378 block) indicate an LS1, not LS6.

This really suprised me. Is it possible an LS1 snuck out of Bowling Green in 03?

A base C5 would have 241 heads, only a Z06 would have 243's.

A LS1 built with a LS6 block is still a LS1.

I understand ... but the block casting number is not 168, rather 378.

I had always read that all vettes got the LS6 block starting in '01, along with the first Z06.

I heard that some of the 2001 vettes got them and that others didnt... maybe GM had stock of the LS1 blocks still coming from the foundry and kept using them until they were done?

I would imagine they are all Ls6's b/c only a few 02's have ls1 blocks. IT would be a loss in money for gm to have to machine factories making 2 types of blocks when 1 would sufice. Some of the 01 vettes and 01 f-bodies recieved them, this is when they started doing the switch over from plant to plant.
