Then yes. 2004 is a good year as GM made a bunch of internal upgrades to all 4l60e between 2002 and 2003 to handle the higher power of LS2 engines.
The primary (only?) difference between a 4L60E for different vehicles is how soft/firm the 1-2 and 3-4 accumulator springs are, how big a few holes in the separator plate are and whether it has a standard or Corvette servo. Many people like to upgrade to the Corvette servo for performance applications, but some people have reported problems (binds or flares) with this unless they also increase the size of the 2nd gear and 3rd gear holes in the separator plate.
GM sells like 10+ different separator plates for different applications, but you can just buy the Transgo universal plate for '96 through '06 and drill it according to the supplied instructions.
In other words, it is an excellent transmission, but you might consider upgrading it with a the Corvette servo (which was standard on F-body cars) and a shift kit or at least a performance boost valve.

Oops, I missed that detail and don't know the answer.
However, tail housing are easy to swap. I have bought tailhousings, bellhousings, valve bodies and other parts from ebay seller "powertrainpartsplus" and have always been happy. They have several 4L60E tailhousings on sale now for $39.
Ted.

Yes, the electronics is the same from '96 thru '06. All 4L60E/65E/70E for LS engines have the same size bell housing and the trans case is the same size for even more years. The tail housing determines where/how the trans mounts. I am only aware of one 2WD output shaft which has the "gear" for the VSS pickup; so the speedo should be fine too.
I'm not an expert on this, but have answered similar threads many times without correction. Just be sure that your trans bellhousing has a mounting hole in the 12 O'clock position as this indicates it is LS compatible with a 300mm input shaft.
