NXS Spring Loaded Manual Boost Controller Question
Today, I received my manual boost controller from NXS. There is instructions for both single and twin turbo. The problem is they show a wastegate with only one port on the top. I have JGS wastegates, and I have one coming off each section going into the turbo. So my question is....Do you just block off the bottom port and how so? My current MBC I have the bottom ports into a "T" and the top ports into a "T" each of which connect and then a third place for the boost source. The new NXS controller only has a barb for boost source and one for the top port on the wastegates. Need to know what to do with the bottom ports.

Yeah thanks. Right now the one I have on spikes to 30lbs and then settles to 25lbs so I plan to turn this one to around 20lbs to start with on my COS 3 bar. I just need to find out how to use it with a wastegate that has two ports. I didn't know if you just put a plug in the bottom port on the wastegates or not.

That makes sense. Glad I clarified. Did you just leave the top barb out or leave the barb in but nothing on it. Wouldn't think it would mattter but wanted to make sure. Thanks for responding. Now I can fix it tonight and drive it tomorrow on my 44th birthday and not have to worry about blowing it up. lol

hook the boost controller in-line with the first vacuum source (before the T) and then T it to the bottom ports. the top port is just left open. doesn't matter if you leave the barb or not on it

How well do these work? Im on a budget and this is a lot cheaper then the eboost street which I want, but if this works well ill use it to get my car rolling, then switch

this is the one i use on my cars that i dont use the tru boost on.

so i have a typical 2 port wastegate. right now the bottom port is connected to the turbo compressor side and the top port open.
I just got this NXS boost controller and im a bit confussed how to hook it up.
I thought the top port on wastegates were used when you hooked up boost controllers?
so this one goes in line with the bottom port to the compressor boost source?
it doesnt get T-ed off the top port and then into a boost source reference?

coming out of the intake manifold, into the bottom of the boost controller, **** up, then coming out of the side, to the bottom port on an external gate.
the spring pushes down on a ceramic ball, and that adds artificial pressure to your wastegate spring basically limiting the boost it sees, before opening.
when you crank in your boost goes up. these do work great we use them on everything.

the other type of boost controller allows pressure to the top.
say you are running 5lbs of boost.
the other type of boost contoller has a solenoid that is Pulse width controlled by duty cycle.
it is shut, and it allows some pressure to creep into the top of the wastgate diaprham,
this will add resistance to the spring, increasing your boost pressure.
say you are making 10lbs, and you throw 2psi at the top of the gate from a compressor regulator, you just hit 12lbs of boost, with the 10lbs spring, because you ahd 2psi of resistance on the top.
thats how a EBC commonly works, you can also use a EBC to restrict, swapping the 3 way port on the controller, to normally open, this way it flows normally to the gate and opens it
increasing duty cycle will increase resistance, just like the ball and spring, effectively adding boost, since its not seeing the full reference. only snapshots of it while its pulsing.

got it lol i googled a bit an understand a little more when to use the top port. A diagram of three types of controllers and soliniod setups. for the NSX controller, it really is that easy i guess lol it just seemed way to simple is all lol guess i was over thinking it lol dont know why lol

its wild how simple it is, i have a regulator i use on the dyno that hooks up to shop air and i can just add pressure to the top to make more boost if i want.
whats really neat is,
say you make 4psi on wastgate, if you connect the top and bottom you should be around 8, and then if you disconnect the wastgate entirely you will make 12.
1x 2x then 3x
at least thats how all my setups work, pretty neat for a simple street or high boost setting, if you get your gate to 9-10 and you wanna double it for the track you can just connect the top with a T fitting or put a NC solenoid in there and flip a switch and double your boost.
