Do you guys replace/partial rebuild tranny parts when swapping converters?
The shop that does my work for me fortunately has a master GM transmission specialist who is highly reccomending I replace a few important parts or even a partial to full rebuild of my tranny when my ss 4000 stall goes in. I've read countless threads on here of guys just installing just the converter with no problems. I didn't want to turn a 350-500$ labor job into a 13-1500$ job not knowing if I really "need" to replace what if any parts. What are some tranny necessitites that really should be replaced? (67,000miles)

(ex) Just like installing headers. It's advised to throw in motor mounts maybe delete your air/erg, new gaskets/bolts...tune.
Do you have to?.....No. Is it a good idea?.... absoulutly

What year is the trans?
I assume the engine mods are just the bolt-ons in your sig?
A 2001 or older should have the sun shell replaced with a hardened one which GM started to use in 2002. Only takes a few minutes more then to replace the 3-4 clutch with at least a GM 7-friction kit.
I'm in Ann Arbor too, be happy to meet up with you and/or the mechanic.

Tough call... How does the pan, fluid and filter look? How does it shift and feel? There are a few known weak links inside the trans he could fix fairly simply. If you are planning on adding some power and beating on it, might be a good time to put some money into it.

It's a 99...maybe I'll just do what he thinks then (to a certain $ extent). Just didn't know if their was any particular parts that are a must to change out when throwing in a way bigger converter. He named off a few things that I have forgotten but I'm very unfamiliar with transmissions anyways. It just shifts so smooth and everything feels right, hard to spend alot of money when it's not "broke" or an obvious need to have it rebuilt.

I think you would be fine, but at the same time as stated there are a few things to replace/improve to really make sure it stays golden, that are very simple to do. Dont forget a bigger cooler... Thats one thing I had beat into my head when I was about to do mine.
