Default magnum xt80 or s475/83 both in T4... which will flow more?

I beleive the magnum has a 77mm turbine wheel with a 1.22 ar and the borg warner has 83mm turbine with a 1.10 ar but 5mm smaller compressor. Between those two in a t4 application 4.8-5.3 motor which will flow more?

Thats what Im thinking. I would assume they are probably capable of the same thing but the magnum is a smaller package.

Do they rate the magnum?

A standard cast S475 with the T4 83mm wheel is rated at something like 1050.

Im running a s475/83 right now and it's pretty strong. It's good for bottom 10's at my weight. The turbine is the restriction with the 75/83 I wouldn't add any more compressor without upping turbine. A S475/92 would make more power than a S480/83. Etc. S475/83 should be enough to get 750-800 hp on 5.3L.

I agree we seen 2.5:1 back pressure with a 75/83 combo on a 6l with 19psi at 825rwhp. I think the 87 or 92 mm turbine wheel is the ticket on a 5.3l at 800+hp.

Eeesh... What about the 75/92 on the 6L? I agree the 87mm turbine would probably be key on most 5.3's in the 800hp range.

[QUOTE=831jd;17038256]@ stock48 so then a s480 96mm turbine sould really haul some *** then and make 850rwhp easy and cheap[/QUOTEWell I also have a S480/92 on a milled and ported 1.25 T4 and it's a savage. Im not at liberty to say what it runs but it's nasty haha

For 850 hp I would go S475/96 cheaper yet and the 75mm wheel is light. S480/96 is overkill for 850hp unless big CI imo.

Listen to stock he has a lot of experience with different turbos of this size. I agree with everything he has said.

Would you make this same recommendation on a 6.0? Ive been flip flopping between the S480/96 and the S475/96. Looking for 850+hp 100% street car.

Haven't got a good dyno yet on my S480 only try was at 6500' elv and had a plug wire off A true 850~900RWHP is a lot to manage with 2wd on street. The S475/96 will prob go over 900 if pushed but will be breathing hard and hot; the 80mm will be in it's happy zone there.

We went 825rwhp with the 75mm compressor wheel and it still had more in it. The rods where fine there for a season of abuse but it was turned up from 19psi to 23 and bent them in short order.

Yes junkyard Lq9. I have said before I think the 472-96 is the perfect JY turbo because even with the gate pinned shut it will put you right on the edge.

So what i got out of all this is basically between the two i listed the 475/83 will make more power on a 5.3 than the 80/77.

1.lighter wheel
2.more turbine

And later on the 475 can easily be upgraded.

What do you guys think about down pipe size, will it make anymore power going full 5" or better of reducing down to a 4". It will be open downpipe car.

What do you think bp would be at with the same power level on a 4.8-5.3?
Was it a 1.10AR?
