Default AC Delco oil filter?

Do you trust it? I Get dealer employee pricing on the oil and filter. Ends up being a dollar cheaper then Auto Zone Mobile One when it's on sale. I've only done one oil change since I've had the 6.0 goat and it was with dealer Mobile One and AC Delco fiter 2000 miles ago. I plan to change at 3k. Anyway, should I spend the extra dough for a "better filter"?

GARBAGE...go to walmart and buy a Purolator for 3.50. Much better filter with rolled threads. The Acdelco has the cheapest crap cut threads.

you will get tons of different answers on this.

Personally, when my motor is back together in the spring I will be using an AC Delco.

If you're doing 3,000 mile changes almost any filter will do. Don't fall into all the hype about filters and/or oil......

I run a ac delco on my turbo motor and haven't had an issue yet. I cut open and inspect every filter off my car. between the delco filters, napa and wix I can't tell a damn bit of difference between the filter element

I used a ac delco on my first oil change and on my second I just installed a mobile one. The ac delco looked fine and had no problems and a hell of a lot cheapier. I think a filter is filter for the most part except fram lol. I honestly dont know anything about fram just from reading it seems to be junk.

Ve very careful using the AC filter, the threads are not rolled. It uses a cut thread that leaves small shards of metal behind. Open the acdelco box and carefully inspect the threaded part then wipe it with a paper towel. Last one I bought was full of chips and dirty cutting oil from the threading process.

Good filters use a ROLLED thread that leaves no metal shavings behind. Open the box and inspect a good filter like Purolator and inspect the threads. You will see smooth clean threads with no crap left behind to damage bearings etc.

Yes they do....most all the major brands do....why ac doesn't only goes to show how cheap they are built.

Let me tell you how crappy the newer ac filters are. I just bought a WS6 with 38k miles on it, the oil pressure gauge was acting very odd. Jiggling, was slow to move on cold start and the pressure was all over the place. Dealer installed the ac filter when they changed the oil.

I had the oil changed with a purolator filter...no more jiggling or slow to rise oil pressure gauge cold.......plus the oil pressure is 5 lbs higher overall.

I'm tellin ya ac aint what it once was.

^ This is great advice and a really good point. We should also remember that these OEM's change production, suppliers, and are constantly looking to save more on costs. A dog brand today may be the top of the line tomorrow with these kinds of things. (And vice versa.) Its probably best to crack open the box on every purchase, no matter the brand.

AND don't forget NEVER use a ECORE type filter on a LS1 engine! You can tell by looking inside the filter you will see a black plastic cage supporting the filter media. If its not a metal cage STEER way clear.
