best cubes for a street strip lq9 iron block with big single turbo
Ok so I'm building another toy I have a complete lq9 6ltr engine and im going to build it to suit a comp ct6x 91/100 billet turbo I have and some parts iv got left over from my race car build.. now my question is what cubes should I go with as far as reliability etc and overall power
The options I believe are
-370
-390
-402/408 (depending on bore condition)
any input would be great also my heads will be mild ported LS3's with a Holley hi ram intake and will be backed by a 4l80e for street duties

AES 390 iron block is my choice. The cubes don't make a big difference, the turbo does the work. I chose iron block AES 390ci. 80 pounds or so is meaningless in extra front end weight, unless you're doing some kind a serious competition and every 10th of a second counts.......
You want much better strength and reliablilty....go iron 390ci. Its right in the middle of your 3 choices for cubes and it'll be a strong little bastard waiting for 20psi.

So I picked up the phone and called callies directly and asked if they had one on the shelf that needs to be finished. They said yes.....and that they would ship it out in 6-7 days. I paid them $660.00 + $45.00 to drop ship it to AES. It was shipped in 6 days. Then AES had my engine out the door to me in another 6 days.
Screw waiting for engines to be built for months...get things done yourself.

The only thing that was holding up AES from building my 390ci a few months ago was the 3.825" crank.

so far its looking like 370 or 390 no love for the 408 combo and for the extra 20 cubes and the added waiting time i might just go 370 im going to keep waiting to see others opinions as im not in a rush to start it

I went with flat top pistons because I'll be using E85 and 10.3:1 cr with my 18-20psi.
But I think they use a -15cc dish piston for their lower compression 390 boost built engines.

I would go for the 370 just for simplicity, and no wait time for parts. Diamond pistons and good set of h beams can be had for $1500. set of main studs and to the machine shop you go. But then again that's the prespective of a poor person lol. What are your plans for the car? street car/race car or one or the other?
