trans and gear ratio selection, how important is it?
I'm getting geared up for a build of a 92 sierra 4x4 with an ls swap. hoping cash allows for a 6.2, 6l80, and a turbo. Question is how important is choosing gears or a trans with a boosted motor are the gear ratios in some 6l80's different from others? Am I messing up with the 6 speed auto? Does the turbo motor and this trans make a good combo for this build? Any thoughts or comments would be great cause I have never got to play with the 6 speed autos before.

Personally I am not keen about the 6l80e gear ratios as the 1st gear is a stump pulling 4.02 and then there is a huge drop to 2.36 which tends to knock the engine out of its power range (though less true with a turbo). Then the ratios are very close with two overdrive ratios.
I'm also not confident that a stock 6l80e would handle the power of a turbo on decent boost; not a lot of upgrades are available at this time.
IMHO (and not based on any personal experience) I would suggest a well built 4L80E instead.

you think gm would have learned from the 4l60e with a 3.059 1st gear to a 1.625 2nd. Maybe the tall first gear of the new 6 speed automatic is suppose to help city mileage or something.
