i would like to quiet my truck down without taking any power out of it.

i know there are about a million mufflers available, is my best bet just throwing on long glass pack from the nearby auto parts store and seeing how it does? lol

I run the long red 3" glasspack....looking through it you'd think it would flow good, but when I take it off It adds 2psi...and I get the nice turbo whistle sound. it does help quiet it down.

I would look at the Hooker Maxflow. Available in 4", flows the same as straightpipe, and is one of the quietest straight thru mufflers at idle (although one of the loudest at WOT).

ah well the twins on my truck and the exhaust i built is all 3 inch, but i would assume they sell the same stuff in 3 inch

Maganflow is always my first choice. It's got an awesome tuned tone and quiets the car down a good amount. Just my opinion.

I use magnaflow with an electric cutout. It's the best of both worlds that I could find.

Hooker Areo chamber comes in a 3” or 3.5” and straight through design with perforated walls so you don’t run into the backpressure of the louver design (glass pack). I had dual 3” on my Camaro and it was pretty quiet and sounded great. I know you said budget and these are $70 each but they are great mufflers, one of the best flowing mufflers out there.

If you want something a little louder check out the Dynomax Race Bullet. They also have perforated walls so you don’t get the backpressure of louvers and come in a wide variety of sizes and lengths.

I have a Borla XR1 on my car from when I had long tubes and SLP Loudmouth 1 cat-back. My car still isn't running yet, but I'm wondering if it'll be TOO quiet going through the XR1 all the way out through the SLP LM. Guess I could do a cutout if it was.

Anyone have experience with kooks race series mufflers? I'm not sure if they will cause excessive back pressure but I figured it shouldn't since its a straight through race muffler. Its the only thing I can get to fit on my short down pipe going out the front bumper though...

Are the twins/exhaust louder than the Fairmont gt45/Mag.80?

I too am on a never ending search for a muffler that keeps turbine whistle. I'm going to try a Helmholtz style resonator on my staight pipe to tone it down

Cutout right off the downpipe and then run any muffler you want. I usually just run with the cutout open but when iw anna get on the highway and cruise i close it and its even more quiet then stock.

i have the Dynomax Race Bullets. I just tried to weld everything together yesterday. Got it fired up and one dropped down. lol Trying to get the length sucks. I need to move my bracket over about an inch. Anyways, my car was just a little loud and I had forgotten I had the bullets. I fired it up yesterday and defitely quited it down and had a killer sound to the car. I have to work most the day today but plan to finish it this evening. I will post a video of before the exhaust and after I put the exhaust on with the race bullets. I can't imagine you would lose anything with these. They are straight through but it did quite it down.

FWIW- I used 10" of straight pipe and then the bullets. Main reason was to dump it by the back axle so I don't have to smell the exhaust as bad in the car. I will post a video of it tonight. If I can I will get it out on the road and jump on it with the new mufflers also.

I run the magnaflow as well, there are enough vw guys in the LH valley that all use the 3" id 4" od resonator, I think the part number is 14419 that you can find them pretty cheap used or they are about $80 new

I've tried a tone of different "straight through" mufflers of various prices, and at this point if I was building your setup I would definitely want to try this muffler--Magnaflows have a fantastic tone, and they are reasonably quiet when just driving around:

It's a little pricey, and I don't know exactly what you can get out of the best offer option, but maybe something....

The other, slightly quieter and slightly cheaper, albeit heavier and less long lasting option for me would be to run a pair of good old dynomax super turbos. You can't beat them for a nice quiet and good flowing system when they are new. Of course the packing starts to burn out of them and they get a little less quiet:

Okay, here you go. First video is just of idling outside of car and sitting inside. Second video I tried to video by hand while I drove it a little and gave it some boost. I absolutely love the sound. Quiet but still sounds wicked! Can't imagine I would lose any power. Straight through.

Dam sounds nice what's the length on the bullet muffler. Do turbos even quite a car down at all I heard in some forum that a turbo also may count as a muffler
