Default Is this engine a LS1???

Hey yall this is my first forum post
(!!!And the crowd goes wild!!!)

I was looking on craigslist the other day and seen a 1979 corvette with an LS1 engine. The current owner just recently bought it and has only put 150 miles on it he has to sell it do to falling behind on some bills. The previous owner had installed the engine shortly before and said it was built late 2012. I really like the car but have a couple of questions. Is the engine actually an LS1?(seems like it's missing the regular air induction system?) Are they still making LS1's? do you think it's a crate(doesn't really look new) or a rebuilt engine. Is there a way to tell about how many miles are on it? He also said it has the original turbo 350 trans does the new engine have to much power for it? If there are any questions I should ask him to determine let me know.
thanks for the help

I was having trouble uploading photos but you should be able to see them here

Its definitly an LS engine. You'd need casting numbers too see which one tho. You wont actually know anything else for sure - gonna have to go on the previous owners word. If its got good compression and doesnt make noise you should be alright.

That's the one!!
I've been looking for a corvette with an ls for quite a while.
So I can't see a lot from the picture but is there a reason it looks like it has a carburetor?

You can run a carb on an LS engine, and that appears to be what the car has.

A well tuned carb and perform just as well as fuel injection. Carbs have been known to make a little more power at the cost of fuel economy.

It would look like that if it didn't have a carburated manifold, and it still had the covers on the coil packs.
