Default 5.3L for $300?

Hey everyone. I discussed an LS1 swap the other day with some people, and they suggested going the 5.3 or 6.0 route instead. ('90 K1500)

I went by the local junk yard and priced both setups.

$2800
6.0 - Motor, Transmission, transfer case, wire harness, and ECM

$2450
5.3 - Motor, Transmission, transfer case, wire harness

Then I started looking around on Craigslist for options. I found a 5.3L pulled from an '02 Tahoe for $300, with a blown main bearing. The motor comes complete, but obviously needs rebuilt with the current situation.

Is $300 a worthy investment for this motor? It is an iron block, with aluminum heads.

No. Well you could part it and get your money back but you could have it "fresh" for less money than used. Btw i paid $250 for a pair.

I have no idea what you meant by any of that.
