Default cam help, just need to know if this cam will work for me...

i originally posted this on Comp Cams forum, but haven't heard anything. I need to know if this will work or not so I can order the cam. i originally ordered 54-458-11, but it is a 3 bolt cam and i need a single bolt. i found cam 146-458-11 with the specs being just about the same and it is a single bolt which is what i need. only thing is it shows that it is for a 6.2 LS3. will this cam work in my 5.3? i already changed the springs for the new cam, now i just need to make sure this will work. please help so i can get the cam ordered and motor put back together. it wouldn't be too big of a deal if it didn't take 2 weeks for stuff to get overseas. thanks.

First off ,that is a wide split for catherdral port heads, but more to the point, the cam gurus on this board will need alot more info to decide of that is the RIGHT stick for your setup. Good Luck.

thanks for the info. not sure what else is needed. i'm running a quick fuel 750, edelbrock intake, msd ignition and coils, headers 2.5" duals. going in an old 52 chevy truck. it will be in front of a 700r4. on camquest, it said that the first cam was the best choice. let me know what else might be needed. thanks again.

even the first cam is a big cam for a 5.3 really. hard to believe camquest said it was the best choice. was that best choice of both cams listed?

On camquest was it the BEST OVERALL power or did it just show the highest peek HP? And are you sure you put in 5.3? That looks like one of comps LSR LS3 grinds. Either way thats alot of cam for a heavy truck with a 5.3 even though that low first gear in the 700r4 will get you up in RPM pretty quick!

The first choice would be the best out of the two. There are better options out there and further more don't let the single/3 bolt cam gear get in your way. We stock 3 bolt 4x cam gears if you need one. Just give us a call. They are very affordable.

Camquest is not your friend, use a real cam grinder that actually talks and interacts with you, not software.
