Wink Injector Tester, Pulser, Cleaner - Updated circuit card

Thought this might help anyone who has a set of injectors that are sticking or just been sitting a while and want to clean and test them. Need to put it in pretty box and label the switches as well as make the pulse width variable to simulate injector duty cycle and RPM.

Next phase is to build the fuel section to pressurize 4-8 injectors and check individual flow rates for comparison.

Progress!

Final design of circuit car assembled early this week. Got an Ultrasonic cleaner and will add multiple injector connectors to exercise 4, 6 or 8 of them in the cleaner. Then build a flow bench to verify spray pattern and measure flow rates using a Walbro pump and a Corvette pressure regulator. You can hear the truck injector buzzing for the 1 and 5 second intervals. 8mSec pulse width for now but future revisions will allow for variable pulse widths.

I really hate paying $16 each to have junkyard injectors cleaned when I can do it for much less at home.

How did you build the injector driver ?

I designed the electronic circuit then had a buddy who builds all my circuit cards make them using surface mount components to keep it small and affordable.

I have about 50 used injectors that I need to clean as they have been sitting for a while and want to verify they are not suck open or closed before I build an engine. For what I have invested in the ultrasonic cleaner and the circuit card design and parts, it is still cheaper than having them sent off for cleaning by a commercial company. Plus I can clean any future injectors for free. My buddy buys used cars and often the injectors are stuck from setting so he will be able to use it too.

Works like a charm for cheap!

That is pretty cool. Are you just going to run a solvent cleaner through a pump and then to some sort of rail where you can just swap out the injectors? They had a display of a fuel injection "how it works" when I went to auto mechanics a while back. Cool display. Showed 3 injectors (half a v6 engine) running, with a dial **** to vary the rpm/pulse rate. Had a small motor running a gear to simulate the rpm pulses needed to trigger the injectors. Had the pressurized system and you could even see the spray pattern of the injectors because the front of the display was 1/4" glass.

Me too, I have the full injector/rail setup on the intake that came from my truck 5.3.

Just curious, but what would the card to run an injector run? I have a power supply, and just an FYI, computer power supply rated at 300 watts would run your setup all day long and it already has a cooling fan built into it. And that is the walbro pump and injectors and if your card requires it, that too.

I probably have a supply out in the shed I could send you that is brand new, if I am not mistaken.

In order to run a PC power supply, you will need to add a load resistor to simulate a load across its 5 volt output. They won't operate unless there is a load on it. Typically a 20 ohm ceramic resistor is needed. Just google atx bench power supply to see how to mod one for standalone configuration. Green wire needs to be grounded to turn on the supply.

No you don't, just tie the green and black wires from the main board plug (20 pin) together and it works perfectly fine. Have one sitting here that's been run for over a year like this and never had an issue.

The older piece of crap ones I used to use needed to be loaded. Newer designs must have changed that.

Now I use ebay supplies that are 12 volt with 10 amp capability for about $15.

this 200 watt is rated 12v 10a

I can check the ones I have out in the shed in the morning to see and send you snapshots of the mfg label.

I have more tricks up my sleeve.

I guess 30 years working in an electronics calibration lab and 38 years working on car stuff leads to an insatiable desire to solve problems in the most affordable way. In other words I am a pickey cheap old bastard that likes to go fast. Also, I won't overpay for excessively profit filled goods and services if I can build it myself.

Did you ever get your builder to put a couple of these together inside a housing? I pulled a set of injectors from a 97 F150 and want to test them out, along with the new ones I am putting in. I got them installed and one of the new injectors stuck open and flooded a cylinder, repeatedly.

My Mom's ford repair is about to urk my butt about 78 ways across!!

If you can get one together fairly quick, I believe we talked a price via PM but apparently deleted the message at some time..
