I spent $1195 with BP automotive for a new harness, coil packs, and coil brackets. $660 with EFI for the LT1 24x kit and pcm. $100 with Summit for spark plug wires. I think about $200 for a mail order tune from PCMforless to get it running until it gets dyno tuned. $25 for a pcm bracket. Install is relatively easy. Take off the timing cover and swap out reluctor wheels. Tap the dowel on the cam outta the way, reinstall. You will need to order a 96-97 timing cover for your year of car. Also you will be putting in a new crank sensor. Obviously remove old wiring harness and install new one. Thats off the top of my head. Im waiting on a harness and mine will be ready to fire up. The link that ramair posted has the kit. Just enter your car info and it will bring up everything needed for the swap. Oh, I also bought a Jegs keyed hub for like $80 or something.

Depending on where/how you shop, and how pretty you want it. It can be done between $900-2,000. The only thing that will keep your cost down low is if you're already a 96-7 model. Otherwise, here's a short list of things you'll need:
~Kit from EFIConnection
~New or reworked harness (BP or EFI)
~96-7 Timing Cover or custom from EFI
~Coils (Brackets based on how/where you're going to mount them)[BP or EFI.
~0411 PCM (I still have one more for sale)
~Plug wires ($137 for MSD from summit and still have to make them or Custom made order from Taylor, $83 shipped for 10.4mm)
~96-7 Knock sensor
~**A4 trans**--OBDII harness and 96-02 3-2 shift solenoid and if a 94 and your current trans doesn't have a PWM, you have to put one in. (If an M6, no trans mods needed)
~Send off PCM for base tune, then head for the dyno

I bottom lined mine for $900 needing everything for a 94 model. In the end I spent about $1300 due to powdercoating and my own custom valve covers for coil mounting. It all depends on how/where you get your parts.
In my case: Coils were free, cover was $25, Solenoids were cheap because I work at a GM Dealer Parts dept. They can be had cheaper on ebay but I wanted AC Delco. my trans was already outfitted with a Fitzall harness. My wife manages an Advance Auto Parts and a good friend powdercoats.
Alot of research and good friends pays off.

When i did my swap by the time i was done selling my msd opti, msd wires, harness, pcm, timing cover, icm, coil, etc i was down to 500-600 total in before tuning. Whats a delco opti worth on Summit... 450ish? I think its well worth the money to do the swap then have to swap opti's over the years.

No opti or ICM issues and better tuning ability & datalogging. Plus, if you can't tune your own car, there's more LSx tuners out there. Many of the good tuners coming into play now were only in grade school when the LT1 was in play. So all they know is LSx/HPtuners/EFILive.

Also, many will disagree and say it's not needed, so-on so-forth. But it's about upgrading for something better. If anyone disagrees, then ask them; does someone really need a stronger $2500 rearend for a streetcar, or a PHR or control arms, etc, etc. Guys will dump thousands of dollars into a suspension to make a good handling car handle better. So why not put about a grand into the ignition system for better tuning and a PCM that responds 1000x faster.

Find someone to build you a harness then get the rest from efi connection depending on their build time. I had to wait like 3 months for my efi connection harness. It's a great harness, just have to be patient if they have a long wait.
