02 camaro t56 hard shifting
i recently installed a skip shift eliminator, the transmission has 123,000. if i run up first gear its still like it locks out 2nd gear, its hard to grab gears, the shifter does not have any slack in it. it does have a short throw shifter in it. it does grind every once in a while going into 3rd, when putting into 1st at a stop it sometime clunks. one person told me synchro's another guy told me the plastic guides on the shift fork. any ideas, im thinking im going to rebuild it myself i rebuilt an automatic trans in my diesel truck. so i cant see it being much worse. i just need to find out what is the problem, i want to take it to the track but its not worth it when u cant even grab gears. unless i double clutch it if i run 1st out it will hang up for 5-10 secs before going into 2nd

Hard shifting all gears makes the clutch release suspect. It will take out synchros as well if it goes on long.....all clash-shifts eat away an the synchro clutching teeth AND a dragging/ poorley releasing clutch will wear the lined synchro blocker rings quickly. I would start with a release system check-up.

ok so i may not have to rebuild the trans? i was still thinking about doing a stage 2 rebuild on it to be able to handle what i throw at it. but i was told the previous owner put a clutch in it so i will start there. how do i go about doing a release system check up?
