Quiet exhaust???
Hello everyone,
I have a 2002 camaro ss with kooks lts, patriot heads, .595 .605 cam and slp loudmouth exhaust. It is terribly loud now with cats. Does anyone know what exhaust I can put on to get it as close to stock sounding as possible, at least at idle? I don't like the loudmouth because it is very raspy at high rpms and really loud at idle as well. Thanks.

I love the cam loap sound and a deep low idle...right now, I don't have the deep low idle with the slp loudmouth. I also don't like the rasp of the loudmouth at high rpm. Just want lower tone instead of just LOUD.

Ok well that's much different than "close to stock sounding as possible" lol With that said I was running the SLP Loudmouth as well (heted the rasp too) and I just added a Flowmaster merge along with a Magnaflow 14419 muffler to go in place of the LM 1, and it eliminated almost all the rasp and is much deeper. Still very loud under hard throttle, and the cam still lopes hard, but much smoother and quieter at part throttle driving

He is talking about the FM merge at the point were the two banks come together to one pipe. Most ORY have a terrible merge point that contributes to the issue. The FM merge brings the sides togwether in amuch more orderly fashion. If you really want to tame it alot, and still sound good when you are on it, SLP Dual Dual is the closest you will get to stock withouut totally choking it down.

I ran a Flowmaster merge dual 3" in/single 3.5" out with a 9" dynomax mini bullet welded to it followed by a Borla XR1 3.5"/3.5" Bullet. After that, I ran a turndown which with that setup exits right at the axle.
This setup sounds awesome at full throttle, very deep and throaty at idle, and the ms3 cam sounds awesome with this. Zero rasp, and there was a weight savings to boot.
At idle, it's actually quieter than the flowmaster catback that was on it.

Magnaflow. I just installed one of their exhausts and it is pretty quiet being that I have longtubes and an ory. Before I installed it I had the longtubes, ory, and the stock exhaust with a flowmaster muffler and it was noticeably louder then the car is now. Nice healthy sound with zero rasp.

I tried a few things when I had that garbage loudmouth exhaust. Tried a Borla XR1 muffler and I helped some but the SLP Powerflo conversion made a big difference. It was still loud but not just loud without a defined tone. It was also deeper which I liked. Got rid of most of the rasp. My next step to completely eliminate the rasp I was going to install a flowmaster merge.
Never got around to that. At the end of the day the f bodies are cursed from the factory with exhaust because of the y pipe setup. A x pipe setup ran over the axles with mandrel bends is the best option. It's expensive but with the right mufflers its the best option.
