Default If you've had an LPE GT2-3 come in here!

I've been doing a lot of research on cam selection. I have two very different cams on my selection list (I've bought them both).

I'm looking at the LPE GT2-3 cam and see that a bolt on M-6 car will make 370-380 rwhp. As I research this cam it seems like everyone that has had this cam, now has swapped it out for another cam. Why doesn't anyone stick with this cam? Do you ever wish you had your LPE GT2-3 back?

The cam looks like a perfect cam for my stock 241 castings and M6 w/ all the bolt ons and stock 3:42 gears. I want a good street cam that will make 370 - 380 rwhp and have a nice flat torque curve. I really don't want to spin the engine higher than 6400 rpms. All that and a stock idle (I'm and old guy) from a little LPE cam.

The other cam on my work bench is a TR220-114. I know what that is all about.

I plan on keeping mine until I do ported heads. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

there are other little cams that make that power. look at the comp cams 216/220 and 216/216 (what i'm running). mine put down 397/391 with bolt-on on stock 241 castings.

How does your cam idle? Any times?

cam idles very nicely at ~800 rpm (i've been meaning to get a video, but I just haven't gotten around to it). quite stealthy. street manners are excelent.

my best time is a 12.9@108 ... that's with a DA of 6300 feet (track is at 5380 feet) and before headers/exhaust setup. that corrects to squeek out an 11.99. race weight is 3670. I'm expecting to run a 12.6 with headers and new clutch (stocker was slipping something fierce).

The GT2-3 must be the best kept secret in the LS1 community. Nobody else is using this little gem?

i think that's part of the idea

you don't wanna go posting around that you're running this cam, then you can't keep it a secret

Just got miine installed Mon night and so far I love it. Has a nice stock idle and the pull is great from 3500k up. Feels stock any lower. I'll be keeping mine in for a long time. BTW only took 6 hours to install the cam, springs and pushrods.

So you made the 397/391 with STOCK heads, STOCK manifolds/cats and a tiny 216/216 cam?! Not calling bs, just looking for clarification.... if you did that's awesome! I'm putting a motor together with stage I heads, an 02 LS6 cam, and stock manifolds/cats (don't want to deal with the smog ****'s here in Cali). I hoping to hit 400rwhp with tuning after all is said and done, just looking for people with similiar setups for a comparison. Thanks.

the 397/391 is through LT's, ORY, and a full catback. Other mods are lid, ported TB, springs, pushrods, tuning. Here's the dynograph between manifolds and LT's on my setup.

Just to let you know dyno with manifolds, also had ported maf, gutted cats and cutout... all other mods the same ...

Here's a video of the car idling with a small throttle blip and return to idle. MPG compression really screws with the lower ranges of the audio and adds a whilsting that's not there with the AVI version. but the avi version is 15 megs ... anyone care to host it??

anyhow ... save as, please

That sound is so stealthy, I would never guess it was cammed.
