Default 2002 Tran Am Turbo build

Had some guys tell me I should start a thread here.

Thought I would share this build on my 2002 Trans Am. I bought this car as a roller in Dallas to build a strip/street car, pretty much a race car with insurance and a inspection sticker lol!! I bough alot of stuff from Wolfe Racecraft like their moly torque arm kit, control arms, anti-roll bar kit, mini tubs, subframe connectors and their 10 pt. chromoly cage. I also ordered a moser 9 inch housing to bolt in that has been narrowed 3 inches on both sides and a complete chromoly front suspension kit from Racecraft. I have the 5 inch ws6 hood from VFN that is extended to the windshield, a fiberglass dash, and a rear bumper cut out for wheelie bars.

Here are some pics of the car when I brought it home.

Then I got it to the shop and started stripping it down.

Then the cutting began!!!

Then Rob started some of his badass fab work!!!

This is just the beginning of this so watch for the thread as I will post as we go along.

Got the 9" mocked in and all the rear suspension bolted in to see how everything will fit. Once I get it all together need to build wheelie bar brackets and get the anti-roll bar in and have the rear end housing powdercoated along with some other things. The wheels are Champions and the rear tire is a 30x12.50 Et street.

I got the block/powerglide mocked in and also got the anti-roll bar done and wheelie bar in the works. Also got the fuel cell in and got the cowl cut out and started on filling it in along with the ac/heater box hole. Next will be the front strut bars.

Got the turbo set up mostly done. Waiting on the intake to do the charge pipe. No intercooler because I am going to blow through a alky carb. The engine is going to be a 416" LS3 with a 106mm Precision Turbo with a billet comp wheel. We are going to run a C&S dominator blow though carb on alky and have a Reid cased transbrake powerglide with a PTC turbo convertor.

The engine is a brand new LS2 block I bought awhile back for another build but somehow got pushed over the this build. I know the block is going to be my limitation but we are shooting for 1300-1500 rwhp with the alky. We filled the block half way up with a bowling ball resin to help out with. The block may or may not last but I am going to go ahead and chance it. This motor honestly is just going to be a "learning experience" kind of deal. LOL. Running a Lunati crank, GRP rods, J&E built the pistons and crower did the solid roller cam. The heads are L92s that WCCH did a stage 3 cnc job on with Terra Yella Shaft rockers on them. I also bought a set of tool steel head studs from ARP to help with keeping the heads clamped down. I also went with a Kurt Urban front belt drive MSD distributer set up with MSD 7730 and 7720 boxes. The intake is made by a company named Speedmasters out of Maryland. Never heard of them but they make a pretty nice 4500 flange L92 intake with a decent plentum. The carb is a C&S 4500 Alky blow through. The trans is a Reid cased powerglide with transbrake and a custom turbo PTC convertor. I hope this set up will work decent but if not there is another engine I have brewing up. LOL

If you did and O-Ring, 1/2" Head Studs, and Thick Deck Heads, I could see it living... For a few passes at least.

Glad to see you moved this into the fi section, I've been watching it over in the drag racing tech.

I like the sheet metal work that was done in the back half of the car, it's getting me amped up to start cutting into mine, where did you get the fuel cell from? 15 or 20 gallon? And are you going to have to put a fire wall in the back seeing as the cell is exposed to the interior ?

The cell I got from a swap meet brand new and it's a 15 gal. And if you see it's polished and if you look at some more pics down, the cell looks black. I built a firebox around the cell in black sheet metal.
