LS9 powered '55 Nomad - 529rwhp
Woah... Talk about a gorgeous conversion! Scott Kisler, the owner of this beautiful '55 Nomad has spared no expense getting his wagon up to speed, but what he didn't know was just how much power was left on the table thanks to some, uh, less than perfect fueling.
As delivered to Geoff Skorupa at Next Level Performance, Scott's '55 laid down just 400-rwhp... With some tuning, Geoff was able to bump it up to 437rwhp, but he knew something just wasn't right. Using the HP Tuners' Scanner and a quality wideband 02 system, Geoff noticed a full point AFR difference from bank to bank, which obviously wasn't right.
After some additional data logging, Geoff suspected an issue with the injectors and once he pulled them out, well, the problem was obvious.
Notice the "drilled" injector holes, which supposedly flowed much more than a factory LS9. Unfortunately, these look like they were drilled by hand, instead of on a precision fixture, and that sloppy drill pattern resulted in some horrible fuel control.
So, Geoff ordered up a set of stock GM LS9 injectors, dropped them in, fixed the fueling tables with HP Tuners and made - wait for it - 529rwhp! That's a gain of 129rwhp thanks to a quality tune up and having the CORRECT parts for the job. Sometimes it's not always about the electronics, sometimes it is a part issue, but having good datalogging on board helped Geoff find the issue quickly, saving Scott time and money in the long run.
