Talking '67 Camaro, 5.3 LS, Drag Week success story!

We were lucky enough to meet James McEntire at the Holley LS Fest in Bowling Green, Kentucky right before he left for an exciting week on Drag Week. James had built a gorgeous '67 RS Camaro with a 5.3 LS under the hood, but his tuning was, well, factory stock. After a couple of minutes with Jay Payson, James was up and running with a brand new HP Tuners' interface and he, along with his friend Randall Burns, started making some changes during the week...

Day 1: 14.39 at 97mph - NO TUNING
Day 2: 14s with minor changes, mostly datalogging using the VCM Scanner
Day 3: 13.60 at 102mph - Added 5 degrees of timing and moved the shift points from 5000 to 5800rpm.
Day 4: Added 2 more degrees of timing and had issues running out of injector and traction!

The best part?
Average fuel mileage before the trip: 20.0mpg
Average after tuning: 25.1mpg

That's a gain of 5.1 miles per gallon, 5 miles per hour, and a drop of over .79-seconds in the quarter mile!!!
With just a little bit of datalogging and tuning, while on the road, at several different tracks in several different cities.

If you're running a stock ECU in your swap and you're not tuned...
What are you waiting for?!
