Default Lost 5th and 6th gear

Like the title says, I just got off the freeway from a 7 hour trip. I went through town, and started going up a hill. I was in 5th gear at 50 mph and when it put a load on it to start climbing the hill, the motor reved up. No loud pops, no grinding, nothing. Just no 5th or 6th. If I try to put it in 5th or 6th, I can tell its going in, cause it takes out the slack in the stupid loose trutrac when I let out the clutch. I was already cruising in 5th, so I'm sure its not a shift fork. Any ideas?

Sounds like a clutch issue but if its only 5th and 6th its gotta be internal. Only one way to find that out.

Ya, the clutch is fine. I will rip it down this week sometime. I did searches and came up with a lot of people with same issue but no one ever posted the actual problem. Stay tuned!

If you still have reverse it's the 5/6 driven gear is spinning on the mainshaft. When I tore mine apart, the 5/6 driven gear was so loose it came off by hand (which is bad, it's supposed to be pressed on and off) b/c the splines were almost gone. This driven gear is a sleeve that is pressed onto the mainshaft splines at the back of the trans. You only have to pull the yoke and rear cover to inspect 5/6 syncro's and gears (reverse is back there also) so you don't even have to pull the trans.
