oil pan, oil control. What's everyone doing?
Hey guys, like the title says, whats everyone doing for oil control? I kinda don't wana get an aftermarket pan at the moment so I've been looking at options like a canton accusump or improved racing baffle for the stock pan. But then I see all these guys going 9s and 8s with stock stuff soooo... What's the verdict?

Modified F-body pan and pickup, new trapdoor baffle & extend pickup to the back of pan. $150 for mods to my pan and pickup is what The guy charges that did mine. Completely stock my oil pressure was dropping to 12 psi at 5000 rpm when I released the transbrake and launched. Without a data logger I would have never caught why my first engine ate a bearing.

This was a 1.36 60'.
Maybe you were picking up the front end much more than I am?
My thought was an accumulator would be much cheaper than the aftermarket pans and do a better job...?

I run the GM muscle car pan on my swap with the windage tray and pick up that comes with the kit. I datalog my oil pressure and with 1.33 60 foots it never dips throughout the entire pass just climbs and flat lines through the end of the pass. It's a high 9 second car.

Not that I'm aware of. I had the same concerns when I built my car a year or so ago. This is the method many of the rx7 swapped LS conversions use and what was suggested to me. I have a mechanical pressure gauge, but do not log oil pressure. I don't do moon wheelies or anything, but I've watched my mechanical gauge very closely on a couple launches and it's never dropped on a launch.

Ask any real engine builder and they will tell you close to the same thing.

I understand you might not be uncovering the pick up and so forth, but it has been proven that adding more oil (which is an old mechanic's way to oil control) will create more heat in the engine oil and if the oil gets high enough it will cause the crank to whip at the oil and cause it to foam up plus lose hp from the crank hitting the oil.

No "real engine builders" here. This was a $220 JY engine and I wasn't about to blow $400+ on a baffled oil pan. I've got pleanty of HP to spare.

Makes sense... doesn't the OEM windage tray fight that a bit though as well? Now that you brought it up, I'll fill my fbody pan and see how many quarts of fluid it would take to raise above the pan level. Can't imagine it was up to high enough to get past the windage tray or it would have blocked the oil drain for the turbo.

I am stock and my oil pressure after beating on the car on the street, it drops really low, like to 20psi, if hot outside i've even see 5-10 psi!! I think it's the gauge, I sure as hell hope so. If you cut the car off for one second and turn it back on, it reads 30. It's not making any noise.. it's not using oil, there's nothing in the oil.. there's not even metal in the filter. I just ordered an adapter from summit. so i'm going to hook up a manual gauge. I think my ceramic ball bearing turbo is heating up the oil and making the stock opsu go crazy.
