new carb recomendations
like an idiot, i sold my nice holley 750dp carb last night before finishing my project. it could have worked fine while i worked bugs but i cant leave good enough alone...and i think what was supposed to be a moderate 6.0 build outgrew the potential of the 750dp.
anyways, what are the top 5 carbs that i should be considering. i dont want to spend $5,000, but i dont want to cut corners. i just submitted my info to prosys online so i should have their input soon.
anyways the combo:
stock bottom LS2 with CNC TFS225 heads, yella terras yada yada yada. 11.7ish compression with 1 7/8 longtubes, 3" duals with bullets and X pipe.
cam is a 236/242 .612/.612 110+4. vic jr 4150 intake. planning a 200 shot through a plate...may step it up to a 250 if the suspension will take it. 4,600 converter through a trans brake 4l60e and 4.10 gears.
any input? or am i an idiot for selling my carb?

If you sold the carb for $2k, then you're a genius
I went with an Edelbrock Thunder AVS 800, but my use is a bit different than yours. My car spends long durations between 2500 and 6500 RPM. I scored a factory reburb with manual choke + needle and jet kit for roughly 350 delivered.

Your going to pay about the same across the board for the top five carbs out there. Accept for the sv1 which is over priced.
The real trick is getting it taylor made for your exact setup. This can only be done if you buy it from a carb shop or carb guru like I did. Only then will it be exactly for your motor and run perfect.
Unless for some reason you learn how to tune a random carb on your own. This takes tons of time and money. Then you might as well buy a custom built one!

It is when you try to really do advance tuning for part throttle and street driving that you have to know your stuff. Or, if he had some giant motor or super high RPM race application where he would need a "guru".
I think an off the shelf carb and a little tuning will get the deal done. I just like the Quck Fuel because it has all the quality billet components and is completely tunable. The standard Holley HP and the Pro Systems carbs do not have billet metering plates.

My Quickfuel Q-850 did god damn great out of the box. I have a SBC 383 and on the dyno it was very close right of the box for my setup.
I added an HVH 2" Carb Spacer (made 18+ HP on the Dyno on my combo!) and thats the only real reason it needed a bit of an air bleed/jet change to compensate for the change in signal. After that the A/F was absolutely Dead On

Take the money you save and buy a good wideband (or two).
Just to be safe, I'd call Quickfuel and see what they recommend. With that much nitrous they'll probably recommend annular boosters.

this will be my street/weekend toy that's geared pretty heavily towards the track. tagged, inspected and insured to drive on the street. i want to be able to drive it to the local strip, run a sub 10/high 9 and drive home without turning a single wrench.
pro systems recomended their 950. i'll give quickfuel a call. i'm new to carbs, and the closer i can get out of the box, the better!
i already have a LM1 wideband so that part is covered (if i can get it steal it back from my buddy it's on loan to)

just talked to an ebay guy mrmanifold that talks a big game. knows everyone etc etc etc. he talked a million miles an hour, his knowlege was way beyond mine and this is what he wants to do:
quick fuel 850 dog leg with his own tweaks on the inside of the carb. anyone ever heard of this guy? he has an awesome reputation on ebay.
he also wants me to run e85 at my compression. i dont know if my aeromotive s/s and summit braided hose are up to the task?
