Default What is the purpose/function of the T56 Transmission Bumper?

This is the rubber thing bolted to the top of the tail housing, part 169 in the manual.
Just curious.

it is a shock buffer between tunel & tranny. some who have put T56 in cars that did not come with that tranny, like me, have removed them due to tight clearance. FWIW I have not contact vibration between trany & tunel.

Thanks! What car do you have a T56 in ******? LS engine too?

I welded in the '98 Z28 firewall and trans tunnel into the el Camino, so I guess I will just leave the bumper on then.

yeah if bumper is no conflict with your tunel, just leave it on.

To get my drive line angle right I had to use 2 shims between tranny & rear mount so there was not enough room left between tranny & tunel to keep the rubber top mount on.

I have a 96 Impala SS I converted from A4 to T56. F-body bellhousing/T6 & clutch hydraulics. Just custom clutch pedal assembly & center console insert for the stick. Did it back in '05. LT1 car

I am also doing a LT1/T56 into a 70 Nova. Going carb though on the motor

That is too cool!
I am guessing the car is Black? '96 BBB = '96 Big Black Beautiful, or Big Black Beast maybe?
Good luck with the Nova, Always have liked the Novas.

BBB is what the trim code is for the "black" ImpalaSS....although as an acronym it has taken on several meanings

Thanks for educating me. I remember a black SS carting 4 passengers along for the ride kickin *** at an autocross I was at several years ago.
I bet that is a fun car with the 6 speed!
Have a great weekend, and thanks again.
