Default Read for anyone looking for an amp

If anyone is looking for a amp to replace the factory subwoofer the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D fits perfect in the nook of our trunk

Couldn't have planned that any better considering I bought it based on specs and not on size without measuring anything

You should be mindful of heat dissipation. Most amplifiers are designed to be cooled via natural convection. If you flip them on their side or plug all of the vents by packing them into a hole, they'll overheat.

Should be good to go with mounting it there just checked the owners manual to be sure. The car inst a daily so unfortunately I doubt Id see any long term affects from mounting it there

:Mounting the amplifier vertically or inverted will provide adequate cool
-
ing of the amplifier. Mounting the amplifier on the floor of the trunk will
provide the best cooling of the amplifier.:

Real world says amps not being over driven with insane low impedance loads do just fine in just about any mounting orientation.

cgroh89. will you be using to power your stock subwoofer?

how are you going about the wiring and audio feed and all that... unless you have an aftermarket witch would explain alot.

I had a Alpine sub in a box laying around from a few years ago I am going to use in a box. I havent looked at it to much as its been pretty cold down here in the garage. If I recall there is the fuse box under the passenger seat that has a decent feed to it. Going to tap off that cable or I will just run it from the battery if I need to.

Going to disconnect the factory sub and use a line out converter off the factory amp. This way if I go on a trip I can plug the factory sub in. In the long term I want to build a fiberglass box in the passenger side, though Ive never done that before so that might not end up so good, but at least if I try and it works I free up all my trunk space again.

Just get a 8" or 10" sub designed for "infinite baffle" aka free air applications and power it modestly and it will provide plenty of great bass without stealing your trunk space. You'll need to dampen the rear deck pretty well and that should take care of the rattles. The factory sub opening has ample clearance for a 3/4" MDF baffle under the new sub to space it up and gain more trunk height for boxes or luggage.

The sub I installed was not designed for a free air application at all and it's done fine so far, but I don't crank it. I'd like to create a fiberglass enclosure around it one of these days, but it's been low on the priority list.

Thank you... I have to bite my tongue sometimes with all internet speak. I can pound on my 13 yr old JBL BP1200.1 and it will barely get warm. It's mounted vertical against my rear seats and pushing 1200 watts to 2 ohms.

Unless you're competing, I think it'd be awfully hard to overheat a newer class D amp or even an AB class even if it was wrapped in a pillow.

If I were to do this I would get rid of the spare tire tub make an enclosure for that sort of french or countersink the sub in put a screen/grate of the top and retain all the trunk space while still having a sub in a box

Has anyone with an upgraded sub experienced problems with the onstar/bluestar/costar or xm/iPod/whatever-else-could-plug-in there and the vibrations? Connectors and solder hate vibrations.

When dampening my rear deck I removed that bracket, cut off the piece that held the sub to make room for my new baffle, then stuffed a bunch of foam underneath it when re-installing. I think I might have even used a crumbled piece of paper to wedge underneath it to keep it quiet--ghetto, but effective and out of sight. If it's not vibrating enough to make noise now, I think the connections will be OK. Plus, it was designed to withstand vibrations in some regard considering it is an automotive application.

Amp installed, got a bit overzealous when installing the rca cables. So nice to have a real subwoofer again with the same box and sub that has been in the last 3? of my cars I think. I want to try and make a fiberglass box on the otherside or maybe in the spare tire well.

BP1200.1 is the best amp ever made, throw a subsonic filter on it and it's golden. I have a pair of them and they were each bench tested at over 1500 wrms.

you can use a little bit of contact cement and felt to cover the RCA cables up, or alternatively just install RCA jacks somewhere in the side carpet and plug the RCA cable into that. some 90 degree bend cables, or even adapters like http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-pack-RCA-right-angle-connector-plug-adapters-M-F-90-degree-elbow-/290635250570?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item43ab35fb8a would benefit you, as well.

Now stick some JBL MS-62c components up front and you will really be set!
