Need some Turbo advice for my Chevelle build.
I am in the middle of a build for my 1969 Chevelle and I am at the point where I need to order the turbo soon to continue moving forward. I am hoping to dip this car into the 8 second zone on less than 20lbs of boost but not have a ton of lag for driving around. Here is some info on my car. Let me know if any of you have some suggestions or advice on my setup.
1969 Chevelle. All steel, full interior, 12 point cage. Expecting it to be approximately 3800 pound race weight. (I need to go on a diet. Lol)
Jakes 4L80E trans transbrake and PTC converter.
Fab9 rear end. Not sure which gear ratio will be final, but thinking 3.25.
Fuel injected either E85 or 93 pump and meth injection through a Holley Pro-ram intake.
Modified 6.0 manifolds. 2.25 twin scroll hotside. 5" exhaust splitting to dual 3 or 3.5" under the car and out the back factory location.
I was planning on building a forged 370ci. I have the 6.0 block, Patriot LS6 style aftermarket heads, 235/231 @ .050 cam with .62x lift on a 115 lobe sep. shifting around 6500rpm. I was going to use a stock crank and buy some forged rods and pistons. Shooting for 9.5 to10 to 1 compression.
I have been very impressed with the S400-HP88 turbos on similar builds, (dschemitty and LS1curt) but since my car on paper is about 4-500 pounds heavier than their cars I am not sure if it will be up to the task. I sent an email to Forced Inductions and they replied this turbo should do what I am looking for. Just thought I would see what some of you thought about the whole combo before I pull the trigger.
*edit* Called to order the HP88 and was told the new V3 84mm would be a better choice. *edit*
Thanks,
Gary

I would say that forced inductions has a great reputation and won't steer you wrong. If they thought there was a better turbo for the task they would tell you. It does them no good if you buy the turbo but your car runs like a turd.
Nice to see another 69 Chevelle with forced induction. Mine is 3720 after a diet. They are tough to get much lighter unless you take all the amenities out of there.
Good luck and can't wait to see it finished.

Thank you. I followed your build also. Very cool car! I was originally going to do twins but changed my mind. Did you ever get the wheelies back that you were hoping for?
From the weight of your Chevelle and combo it looks like the 3800 pound estimate might be a little light. I have full bench seat interior, 18" wheels, steel bumpers and a 4L80E trans. Maybe 3900 or 4000 pounds is a closer number. Lol
I pretty much sold myself on the HP88 already, just seeing if anyone had any advice on any part of the combo like cam, compression, hotside piping or anything that looks mismatched or might hold me back. I am new to the turbo world. I was always a big block chevy guy before this so any advice is always welcome.

Yes, I got my wheelies back. Instead of 3 ft off the ground for 50-60ft, they are now only 2ft but stay up to about 120ft. Then it comes back up about a foot after hit touches down. It's a handful and wouldn't want it any other way.

we need to see some pics of this build asap! Sounds like you have a pretty good plan and set of goals. Hope to see some vids of this thing at the track once you get it running.

Thank you. I will post a build thread with some pics once I get the car is almost finished because I hate threads that seem like they take forever between updates. Lol. It is ready for paint now so I am going get the engine and trans in the final location to start working on the turbo kit as soon as the rest of my parts show up. I ended up going with the billet 84mm ET-R from Forced inductions. They told me it will make just as much power as the older HP88 and spool quicker! I hope to get some racing vids of the car this year too.

Lol. I have always been a Chevelle guy more than any other car. In the last 30 years I have owned a 66 SS396, 67 Malibu, 68 El Camino, 69 El Camino, (2) 69 Malibus, a 70 SS396, 70 SS454, (2) 70 Malibus, (2) 71 Malibus, and a 72 Malibu. I plan on keeping this one though since they are getting harder to find like they used to be.
I also had some first through fourth gen Camaros and a couple of 68-72 Novas. I like them all.
What year is your Nova Ron?

I paid $1800 for my 70SS. It was truly a little old ladies car. When she passed away, I bought it from her son.
My nova is a 69. It has been transformed from a 496 to the L33 turbo. Looking forward to some low ET's this summer.

I have an ECU from a 2002 Camaro I plan on using. I have a guy local here that does customer conversion harnesses and baseline tunes that is going to convert the the box and harness over to run the 4L80E and put a startup tune in the box. Then I plan to bring the car to Slowhawk for a dyno tune.

I am a chevelle guy at heart. And you are correct, you just don't find nice ones for low $$ anymore.

I had a 565ci BBC with a TH400 for this car but I really wanted a turbo LS this time so I sold it all and used the money to buy all the parts I have now.
