Water pump question
There is a sleeve that goes over the water pump drive shaft, does it matter which way it goes? I slid it off and didn't pay attention,

Most water pumps and also the felpro timing cover gasket set come with 2 o-rings for the water pump drive coupler. The o-rings fit in the groove begind the spline section of the drives on the engine and water pump. In a pinch you can measure the O.D. of the drive groove and the I.D. of the unsplined part of the coupling and get a 0-ring that is alittle bigger than the difference of the two measurements. The dealer could probably get the o-rings if you can't find any. I've got the o-ring dimensions at home, I could post them up later.

Found another thread that somebody said the o-rings are felpro p/n 407. I can't confirm this right now though.

The o-rings are what keep the splines clean. Grease in and dirt out. #156 in the pic link I gave in post #3. They go in a groove near the end of each splined shaft (came from the factory that way). They often get real flat or crumble away.

From my post #9, Part Numbers and dimensions for WP drive coupling o-rings if you don't want to use GM parts for whatever reason.
Felpro o-rings as listed on the contents of the timing cover gasket set TCS 45953. 2 ea. p/n 407. Looks like 50 cents ea at most auto parts stores.
I used Aircraft o-rings, p/n M83248/1-012. .375 id, .500 od, .062 wall.
Available from many places, below is just a example:

You mean the two bottom w/p bolts? You don't need to pull anything apart if that's the case. Just take one bolt out at a time, put sealant on threads and torque to spec. Two bottom bolts are the only ones that need sealant.

Don't sweat it. Gaskets only cost a couple dollars for the pair. Think of how much you're saving doing it yourself vs. taking it to a shop. Everyone has to start learning somewhere.
