Random Spike in temp
So Saturday night I made a routine run to the store and all was well. On the way home however, I had a sudden temperature spike on my temp gauge, and i mean buried it in the overheating. Initially the check gauges idiot light came on and a few seconds later the SES light. I shut her down and let it coast to a stop, then after about a minute I fired it back up and temp went back to normal and all was well on the drive home. After getting home and letting it sit a while the SES light even went off. However... Today, on a short little jaunt to grab some quickie food, the SES light came on again but the temps were normal. Will be getting the trouble code tomorrowm but could that initial spike been an air bubble in the system or was it my sensor crapping out??

I have seen flaky ECT connector cause all sorts of
misbehavior. To get a high ECT reading you would
need a low resistance, which would be unusual for
a flaky-open connector problem, though. Perhaps a
chafed wire shorting? Might start at the ECT connector
and chase down the harness, just to see.

Thanks for the input. Got the code from AZ and was reading just a engine coolant temp got hot. Which seems weird considering that when the light came back on the second time, the outside temp was 65ish and the car was just started up not even 2 minutes before it came on. Ill look into the wiring thing, again thanks for the input....

Have you replaced your CTS?. It's only like $15.00 and its never a bad idea to pick a new one up now and then. Mine was bad and the temp was all over the place, was messing with my idle a bit too.
