Default don't use od when racing? dead spots?

I read a couple of threads where some people say it's ok to race in od and other threads some people say don't race in od. So which one is it? What are the best speeds to race in on a stock converter besides a 15mph roll?

We have covered this many times, for example:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...ave-d-3rd.html

On a stock(ish) 4L60E, I recommend leaving it in [OD].
The 3/4 clutch is less likely to slip during the 2-3 shift when running it in [OD].
The only good reason I can see for running it in [D3] is to be sure the trans does not perform a 3-4 shift under WOT.

If and only if you have the Sonnax HD 2-3 shift valve installed, leave in in [D3]. This valve then keeps the overrun clutches applied in all gears, which reduces strain on the forward sprag.

I suspect the NorthTexasConverter comment applies to the 4L80E; you want to race that trans in [D3].
