I have seen this debated many times on here before. The guys who shim them are hit n miss but the guys with adjustables have no problems whatsoever. These lifters are designed to work with an adjustable rocker.
I am running comp R lifters with crane 1.7 adjustables. They were easy to adjust and since its a hydraulic there is no need to adjust them again.
I got mine from VINCI they call them "Accelerated lift" and say they are a 1.79 ratio. At full lift they are 1.7 Here is a link http://www.vincihighperformance.com/
Give them a call they are great to do bussiness with.

Nate your information is incorrect. The R series lifter requires .002"-.004" of preload. These guidlines are here for a reason...use them. Comp also now offers pushrods for the LS-1's in .025" increments for these problems
