What is the BEST PCV system mod?!
Okay guys, I did some searching around about PCV modifications after finding out our LS engines are thirsty little bastards when it comes to oil (hmm... does that explain why the car was 1 quart low when I picked it up?). When I was doing the plugs (damn the passenger side BTW) I checked the TB and it had a light coating of oil on it. So I'm going to fix this.
It looks like there are a variety of mods you can do to remedy this. Do the "SMH" mod with the deutsch fuel filters. http://www.fbody.com/members/stevenm...ML/pcv_mod.htm
I searched and found some use a "catch can" by using an air compressor filter in line before the PCV. I also noticed GM has a "revised" PCV valve.
I was thinking of doing a catch can and the newer PCV valve to solve the oil problem... before it become a problem. the car only has 46,000 on its clock. So what is the BEST way to do this? Is the AMW the best bet? It looks like a top notch piece. Or are the other two ways just as good?

A catch can has been the only real proven way of stopping oil into the intake. Some people have had great luck with air/oil seperators or filters but their has been a debate to how much they restrict the PCV system. I personally have been running a Greddy catch can for a couple of years with great results, so I would say get yourself a AMW. Note that a catch can or anyother PCV mod will not stop oil consumption it will just stop oil from making it's way into the intake. I still use about 1/2 qt. of oil every 1000miles and less than half of that is accounted for in the catch can.

using fuel filters here and switching to the real can. Tried to talk to GM dealer about "revised" valve, they looked at me like I was an idiot and tried to sell me stock valve assembley (valve/boot/all the hoses) for some ridiculous price...

Thanks Guys
Well, that settles that... I'm going to try to get my hands on the AMW catch can. I always thought the fuel filter thing was kind of half assing it anyways. Although on their website everything is sold out, so I wonder what the wait time is.
Yeah I know it won't stop oil consumption, I just want to keep the oil where it's suppose to be

We'll be getting the catch cans back in stock very shortly, the past GP hit us pretty heavy. Check our web sight Tuesday and we should be ready to get the kits rolling again.

I installed the LS6 PCV system, then installed a replaceable fuel filter (behind a clear glass exterior) in line between the line on the front of the LS6 PCV valley cover and the port at the front of the manifold. I get a very small film on the interior of the glass after a few months. I think the worst I've seen it was having 1-2 drops inside the glass. Seems to work for me.
Valley Cover -> 2" short hose -> PCV in -> PCV out -> 2" short hose -> filter in -> filter out -> 32" 5/16 fuel line -> manifold in.
3' of 5/16 fuel line @ 0.99 = 2.97
Purolator clear fuel filter = ~$5-10?
Hose clamps = ?$
LS6 valley cover = $40 @ GMPartsdirect
Valve cover plug = $4
So it's about $60 plus your labor to prep top of shortblock to mate with valley cover, etc. Tape everything off and a grinder makes quick work of it. I originally wanted a catch can, but couldn't find them in stock when I was ready. I'm happy with the way turned out, however.

Questions:
1)Will the catch can reduce emissions? If oil is trapped, and just the vapours go in one would think that this could help. Any idea how much?
2) What about an air pump to maintain PCV, and plug the inlet to the manifold? I've seen posts about using the stock air pump for this with limited success, are there better ways? ARE recommended that I install an air pump and ditch the stock PCV system. Comments?
I just installed a vertical fuel filter with clear sides, after 10 km (hard with boost 5-7psi) I have 3 drops of oil in the bottom. (Once AMW has more cans in stock I'll install one.)
98 SS Borla exhaust no restrictor plates QMP T-63 turbo 5 psi (turboXS Boost Control)
Thanks
