Thinking about tossing my 4L60e and going TH400 - what are the pros/cons?
I have been through way too many 4L60e's in the past 5K miles, frankly I am sick and tired of trans problems. I see more and more people talking about the TH400. Whats involved in the TH400? What do I lose/gain by going to this auto. Is the TH400 the one w/o overdrive or is that the 700R? Will I need a new PCM or tuning? How about the converter?
I think we need a FAQ on transmissions

Pro's---
Properly built it can take 1000+ horsepower, transbrakes rule, its an easy swap onto an LS1, its a killer street/strip transmission
Con's---
Plan on spending about $4K to properly setup your car with it, it robs more horsepower from your setup then a 4L60E, can be a daily driver with a mild converter...but large converters take away its DD status pretty quickly.
TH400 is an A3, 700R4 is an A4.
I have a full race TH400, and my car is a NOT a daily driver. Some people do drive thier TH400 cars daily though. But I doubt they have as loose of a converter as I do, as my current stall (pre-spun bearing) was around 4300.
I got a package deal from Brian @ Madman & Co. Racing on the sponsor list------>
